Nice! Can we find a different word to "exclusive" though? It sounds so tabloid magazine. It's just a pet peeve! :D

I'm actually kind of disappointed they are remaking this, it's such a classic! But, of course being sa huge Depp fan I will have to watch it and try not to be too biased!http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/grin.gif

The original wasn't a classic, it was mediocre! It was a boring film that massacred the source material, with annoying child actors and was rescued from obscurity only by a good performance from Gene Wilder.

I can't believe they are changing the oompa loompas. They were the best part of the entire film!
Martin-- you can choose from a range of words meaning 'exclusive' here (http://thesaurus.reference.com/search?q=exclusive) (i made it orange in honor of the oompa-loompas.)
Let us know which one of these you would prefer. :D

So. The Oompa Loompa's are no longer 'carrot looking'?

...

Why?!

This is Burton's vision, I dont even know if the Gene Wilder version was true to the novel

Technically it wasn't. The oompa loompas weren't even seen- they were just shadow- like creatures behind windows...as far as I remember. It's been ages since I read the book.

After all the rumors that the oompas were not going to be in the film its great to see that they will be! I like the new look, reminds me of all the little children Aphex Twins in Chris Cunningham's Come to Daddy video- twisted!:)

Not sure if I like that-- it takes away the charm and funkiness that they had. They look just rather twisted and not really burtonesque. Too much like they're for a music video or something.
I'm reserving judgement until I go see the film though.

Seeing how it's Burton, I'll reserve judgement, he's brilliant! Guess he may be able to make it good too, but we'll see.

And, YES, the original is a CLASSIC! See, it says right here on this piece of paper http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/deal.gif

The oompa-loompas were the best thing about the original because the rest of it was so dire. The only thing that has saved it from obscurity is the fond memories of those who saw it as a child (and that's hardly a glowing recomendation - I thought He-Man was great for a long time), and the psychedelic references enjoyed by those for whom the best thing about the film is that "it's so, like, trippy, man".

In the original book, the oompa-loompas were 2'6''-tall pygmies from africa that willy wonka brought over hidden in packing crates. This was later changed to little white men from "oompa-loompa land" when a couple of people in the US kicked up a stink in the sixties or seventies. If I remember correctly tho he still brought them over in packing crates and a few of them still died on the way over.
