I know that there is a lume mentalray camera post affect shader called Glimmer
however we can install it correctly to maya6.5 it does not compatible with new
camera output shader.
I got to try another method.hmmm

The Lumetools have a shader called Glare but its VERY unstable so I wouldnt recommend it.
On my site there is the Glimmer shader by Andy Hayes but it only works with Mentalray <= 3.3. (Maya 6)
Ive posted a way to do "glare/bloom" with ordinary Maya shaders in this thread: http://www.cgtalk.com/showpost.php?p=1438873&postcount=40

Hope this helps! :)

The ocean shader supports this by default...

Just go to the glow tab and adjust the specular glow value.

Or using the post way is so popular nowdays:)
Render and bring it to PS, dublicate the layer then get rid of all the tones except the highlights. Blur and ADD (linar dodge) that to the first layer.

I'll just drag the slider across :D

I thin khe wants people to try and recreate that image in 3D. Then everyone shares their experiences, tips, techniques, learned along the way.

He's not asking how to do it. He's challenging people to do it.

At least, that was my understanding.

Ok i had a quick go at it..

My enviroment is darker so the reflections are not as bright...

I couldn't get my specular highlights to scatter as much as that picture above any hints?

One of the problems with the ocean shader is that is gets noisier in the distance, whereas in real life the further away from cam the ocean gets, the less noise (more blur i guess). Check the original image compared to the rendered one.

Would be interesting to see if someone could solve this problem, as i have been having it for ages!

I think this could be solved if you could reduce the turbalance based on camera distance instead of wavelength so the bump map isn't distorting the reflection so much....

I think we need Duncan power!! :buttrock:

What's the source of the highlight? I can't see the original pic for some reason, but if you mean the width of the whole spec reflection, how about reflecting a large-ish white disc?

Hmm, now I can see it. Yeah, looks like that photo was shot with a reasonable zoom, so the sun is pretty large but out of frame, matching that size would help.

The water surface needs more detail too, to break up the highlight/reflection better.
