View Full Version : 'use background' shader
one333 10-12-2002, 11:48 PM I'm having trouble getting colored shadows cast onto objects with the 'use background' shader applied. They all come out as black and white, while shadows cast by the same object turn up colored on normally shaded objects. Any ideas?

Yes this is the way it should be. You'll have to color them in post using after effects or similar package.

The Use Background shader node is merely for making a mask. You can get a model on a blank bg then do a shadow pass and get a nice shadow matte. Then you take that into your compositing program and add the shadow mask to your scene, you can use something like a mult or an add to get it to look like its casting a shadow on the actual film.
