(EDIT: Finished! See the final version here. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=282960))
I feel like this is almost done, but wanted to get some opinions on it.
An early version:
The current version:
The hands are bothering me, and I can't seem to pinpoint the problem. Also, I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the chainsaw. Any thoughts?

I cant belive no one commented yet. Really awsome pose and dynamic character. Great rendering so far. It reminds me of the movie sin city. When the hookers and prostitutes fought back. She seems dangerous . . I like it. :applause:

I really like the way you're rendering the latex boot/stockings. It's a menacing image, but fascinating. What will this be for, if you can say?
Nits: Though the pose is very dynamic, it's falling down a bit right at her midsection. The leather strap going up across the vulva (can I say vulva?) is what immediately draws the eye, but then it draws it to a very very narrow/caved in midsection and diaphragm. She's very solidly built, and to see her basically dissolve to nothing in the middle doesn't quite work for me. (opinion only..) Consider lengthening her torso to accommodate more of a middle, yet keeping that flat abdomen and hip angle. Anyway.. that's all I have for now.. best,

its good.. but its freeking me out!
the title alone was enough to draw me in! awesome pic, I love the pose; kinda scary in a good way, too http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/twisted.gif
the hands look fine, something about the chainsaw seems odd to me. looks like it wouldn't quite work, maybe define the chain on the blade (it has to be able to spin to be deadly); and/or fill in the center - whats supporting the blade?
other than that, she looks great. the pleather/latex stuff is perfect.

Freaky stuff! I like it! :)
I think the chainsaw looks odd mainly because it has no engine. Chainsaws are usually pretty bulky at the handle part. Maybe this is some sort of futuristic super compact engine in your painting, but I think it would look better if it had some more weight to it.
Here is a reference pic

Well well mister librarian, :wise:I should say almost done indeed. I'd say, allthough it could be me, that her shoulder blade muscle(the one towards the arm) is a tad bit too thick. Her left forearm has that crease from the arm muscles too high up(image upwards I should say). Fix that and give her some eyes in those ping pongs, and you'd be about done.
I think it's really well done man! :thumbsup:Neat to see so much depth from greyscale, are you going to colourise after this stage or are you leaving it like this?
05-25-2005, 07:05 PM
Miss librarian, actually. :)
What will this be for, if you can say?
Purely for my own entertainment.
Thanks for all the great crits, guys. I'm going to wrap this up as soon as I can get my farking tablet working again.

hahaha. Sorry Miss Librarian!!! Actually... it makes mrore sense now. :) Have a blast:D!
edit: don't worry! I'm not laughing at you! I thought it was a funny idea. No pun, angry librarian decapitates small town in a fit of revenge.

I'm experimenting with a different type of chainsaw (very roughly blocked in) and some fishnets. Better or worse?
06-03-2005, 06:08 AM
Okay, this chainsaw is going to be the death of me. I've never painted a power tool before, so any opinions are appreciated. I'd like to know if this is an improvement (over the first version--the second version was a disaster) before I start refining it. Third attempt:

Looking much better! =)
Although I would personally try to keep the blade of the chainsaw a bit less rounded (look at the reference pic). Otherwise it may look a bit like a cactus... :x

I really dig the fishnets! lol, folling around sorry. I kind of liked the old chainsaw, maybe it could be electric instead of this type, it would be more sleak. A blend between the old one and this one.
Great stuff anyway! a classmate of mine seems to think there's something wrong eith the hip placement and/or size of her torso. I'm guessing corset has that effect, but I thought I'd let you know to be sure. :D

Thanks for all the help so far. Unfortunately, I already deleted the fishnets. I felt they made the thigh/groin area too busy. I can re-do them if you guys think they really add something. I know the waist is unrealistic, but I want it to be very exaggerated.
I've scaled down the new chainsaw body and combined it with the old blade. Some hybrid possibilities:
What do you guys think?

number 1!!! Pick number one mihlady!!!

Thanks so much for all the input. I'd finally resumed working on this before I got those votes for hybrid #1, and I'd reverted to the original chainsaw, trying to tighten it up:
After I saw the comments suggesting I go with #1, I started working on that. Here's my progress:
I've also tweaked her left arm and hand, and redone her right hand. I'm still not happy with the chainsaw. I feel like maybe the proportions of it are off (that is, the bulky engine makes the blade look sort of flimsy) or maybe it just needs to be better rendered (if so, what's off?). I'm not sure if re-doing the hand was an improvement. Any help would be appreciated!

I do sooohw love this piece. :)
Skip the chainsaw allready... :p, it's the rest that matters, just make it cool or someting with some small knives taped or welded onto it. :)
It rocks, I really love it... :D
09-29-2005, 05:22 PM
Thanks, Jan-Mark :D . Do you mean I should put knives on the chainsaw? Sounds like a lot of work ;) .
09-29-2005, 05:24 PM
Well, not necessarily of course. But if you want to spice it up a bit, you could add some blades to the non moving parts or something, a bit like Julie Strain with her blade pin ups. :)
09-29-2005, 05:29 PM
I think I'm going to stay away from adding any more detail to the chainsaw, since it's already making me batty...but I do like the idea of blades and knives, I may have to start working on something like that. :)
09-29-2005, 06:16 PM
Cool, I'll be tagging along.
Hope ot be seein more of your ideas btw. :D
10-04-2005, 02:08 AM
Well, I think I'm ready to call this finished. I've cleaned up the body of the chainsaw:
Many thanks to everyone who commented...I'm glad you guys convinced me to make the chainsaw more believable. Any more suggestions before I submit this?

Chainsaw looks fine. That'll do.
I vote for a return of the fishnets, though... I think they actually do help the image. There's a visual rhythm in the pic that's nicely amplified by the fishnets.
This image lends itself to some 60's era book cover concept. It might be fun to make a version that includes a title, author credit, a price tag, and a little blurb about a sexy vixen on a murderous rampage.
Also, If you know any rockin' bands in your town, you might approach them with this idea as a gig poster! The empty spaces around her are perfect for including band and date info. I bet they'd love you for it.
... Oh, yeah: Don't forget to sign it! ;)
10-04-2005, 06:46 PM
Looking good, I think Mr. Hand has a point. Since her legs are bent it could add to the power in her pose too, but I don't feel it's missing actually. :)
Really great pic!
PS: If you're going to post her in the finished section, could you give us a link please :)?
10-04-2005, 10:14 PM
Nifty. You've certainly managed to get across a nasty demeanor about her. This would be someone I wouldn't want to cross even if she was unarmed. :) One thing that's kinda bugging me, though, is her thong. It's a little... backwards? :scream:

Finished! The final version is here. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=282960)
Thanks for the input. I reconsidered the fishnets, but in the end decided against them--I still feel they make that area too busy and that they compete too much with her, um, groin-strap. (BTW, LoTekK, I know it looks kinda funny--it's meant to be a piece of fetish gear more than a traditional thong.)
