I am planning to buy a sony vaio laptop, but I am stuck with two models to choose from.

The main differences are:

VGN-A317M: 1,73 Pentium M 740, WXGA, ATI MOBILITY RADEON™ X600 met 128-MB VRAM

VGN-A417M: 1,86 Pentium M 750, WUXGA, ATI MOBILITY RADEON™ X600 met 256 MB HyperMemory

My main question is, how will hypermemory affect graphical performance (Painter/Photoshop/Cinema4D)? Will the difference be significant? They both have the same kind of harddrive and memory I think.

The A417M is also a bit (20euros) cheaper than the A317M (I guess due to the hypermemory card) and the A417M is a newer model.

So which one to choose?

I would stay away from Hypermemory, because it is basically shared memory. But someone correct me if you think I'm wrong!

DrFX, no you're right, it is shared memory, but since it's 256mb...
(ATI's HyperMemory cards come in two variations: the 128MB HyperMemory version features 32MB VRAM on board, and the 256MB HyperMemory version has 128MB VRAM on board.)

So did you finally got this laptop?

I'm thinking of spending money on the same model but I'm still a bit reluctant about it
So, care to share some comments on its performance?
