View Full Version : Passes in OpenEXR
Sagroth 05-23-2005, 09:34 AM In Gnomon Digital Sets 3 said that EXR format can handle multipasses nicely, not like maya's build-in render passes control. MR in 6.5 now has an ability to output exr - can anyone tell more about MR multipass rendering with it (or another good multipass technique - not just diff/spec/shadow) if any?

If you have mental ray stand alone 3.4 you can use my shader p_MegaTK and my script maya_to_mental for multipass rendering.

Hi! I was on your site 10 min ago :)
I fear, I don't have stand alone version. Do you suggest that stand alone would give me a lot of advantages in comparence with maya's build-in (not only multipass ability)?

Yes of course.
Mental ray stand alone more flexible and stable.
For example you can use custom texts.

The bitter fact is - I'm familiar only with build-in MR. If I'm up to plug smth external - I think that'd be renderman - it has fair passes, exr support etc.
Anyway, I think I should try everything :) Thanks for advice.
