Hi,

I've just purchased CD4 V7 and am trying to get to grips with it. The main problem I have is that I find positioning the camera really difficult. Sometimes it seems to behave itself, but other times it doesn't respond at all (at least not in the way I would expect). It's really driving me mad ! How can something that should be so simple be so difficult ? What I would really like is a plug-in that gave you the same controls as Bryce does (i.e. the sphere and the three sets of arrows). Has anyone done this or can anyone give me some tips !

BTW The scene I'm trying to move around consists of a room and I'm trying to place the camera inside it to get an internal view.

On a related note, what scale do most people use when using Cinema. ? Is 1m really 1m ?

Cheers,

Max

Welcome to cgtalk....first off.
not heard of any plugin to give you bryce style camera movement controls. However you can always bare in mind....that you can turn off a particular movement axis by clicking on it....It can sometimes be more useful if you change your projection view....eg top and right views to get a better idea of position. To the right hand side of the viewports there are some very useful icons which allow you to move, zoom, rotate and toggle view. Suppose it can be awkward sometimes but its the only one it has...so you gotta take the plunge i'm afraid.

I'm sure someone will be right along to provide you with more helpful advice shortly.

Another tip i sometimes use is to place a null at 0,0,0. and click on it when you want to look arround your scene now the camera will spin arround the null, make any sence?

Thanks for the help everyone. I guess sometimes learning something new can be a bit frustrating if you're used to doing things another way. I realise that Cinema 4D has a lot of power under the bonnet and there is much to learn so advice is always very welcome.

I find the easiest way to point the camera is to set up a viewport linked to the camera and simply use the pan/rotate/zoom controls to frame the scene. You can also use target expressions and animate the target and/or camera.

so you can't get the internal view even though your camera is inside room? sounds to me like you haven't choosen your camera as the scene-camera

I always use the camera with a target when setting things up, it changes when the anim is ready for movement. just drag the camera where you want and then drag the target where you want the camera to point to. Its great for zooming round an object as well. if you place the target on the object then drag the camera round while watching in the camera view window, un fortunatly my comp at best will only do this at wire frame:shrug:

Hi,
An extra advise, sorry. When I'm modeling a room, I put many cameras inside and outside the room. For example, at four corners and four walls. So you only switch those cameras to see it from different points of view. If lines of camera cones in the view bother you, just make them invisible with dots in the Object manager.
For a plugin, try Manipulator (http://homepage2.nifty.com/aquawave/e/cafeteria/manipulate+.html).
