View Full Version : vapourizing effect
cung2 05-22-2005, 10:59 PM hey,
im trying to make a guy vapourize, in a style similar to those in sci-fi films where they get shot by a laser beam and their body sort of burns from inside out with a mixture of unusual colours- anyone know how to get around re-creating this effect?
thanks for your replies.

Hi,
here are few pointers.
First of all you need to have at least two layers. The full background plate (the set) and the rotoed/keyed person to be vaporized on it's own layer.
I'd use a separate (duplicated) person-layer as a track matte to vaporize the person-layer itself. For example use a mixture of animated Fractal Noise patterns and animated Minimize/Maximize effects to create the vaporization. Animated level controls are good in make the matte transition. You can also add some kind of warp distortion to the layer during the effect...
Finally add a bright colored glow and a Trapcode Shine kind-of-lightbeams to come from inside the poor victim.
There are millions of correct ways. This is just one.
Have fun.

I think is an effect created by using two shot (one blank shot and one shot with ready-to-be-killed-character). The blank shot is going to be unmasked within the time of the effect, the effect itself is a kind of animated mask and some color/light variation and blur depending on the result you try to achieve.
