View Full Version : saddle curve problem
tatelin 05-22-2005, 02:24 PM Hi guys - I am trying to recreate a curved surface similar to the one shown in the picture.
http://www.schtschurdesign.com/roof.jpg
I tried the bezier-nurbs but it doesn't react quite stretchy enough - as a stretchy fabric would in reality when put under tension like that. Can someone help a CINEMA 4D amateur? Thanks

Vielen Dank.

the bezier nurbs are not eaxatly nice.... especially if you come from another nurbs modeller like studio tools or rhino....
so being inC4D don´t trxy to achieve a saddle with bezier nurbs...
Insted you should forget about what you learned form your collegues about nurbs moddeling and solve the problem with hypernurbs...
take a look at the atache jpgs...
1)simply take a planar surface and reduce te amount of width an d higth segments to three.
2)next take a hypernurbs object and drop your planar surface into it (in the object manager).
3)now you have to convert your planar surface into an editable object (
4)switch to point edit mode and pick one of the cv´s and pull it.... get an Idea?
and check the following links

that helped : ) playing around with hypernurbs right now. The link with the audi-tutorial was great too.
any time....!
... but you should not use hypernurbs to do 3D models that will go into industrial production (spritzguß etc.) , they are nice but not really precise... For taht you will have to go back to nurbs.

Check out Jurgen Meier's Formula Site here. (http://www.3d-meier.de/)
"Simple" plug-ins for just about every surface you can think of.
Look in the downloads for the Para 8 zip.
Just place the expanded folder in C4D plugins directory and access from the main plug-in menu.
Have fun, Al.

Rantin Al, where is the Downloads section you mention is at Jurgen Meier's site? I saw mention of download in the Plugins section but, that's all. And, no Para 8 zip. Thx.

that is really cool stuff. thanx rantin AI.
----the download for the plugins are sometimes hidden in the tutorials.
Try this. (http://www.3d-meier.de/tut3/plugins/Para-8.ZIP) It's in what I assume to be the parametric shapes subsection (http://www.3d-meier.de/tut3/Seite0.html) of the plugins section. I don't speak German though so no doubt you'll have a much easier time navigating the site than me.
