View Full Version : video card for shuttle pc...pci (not pci-e or ex) help!
dorme1 05-22-2005, 01:09 PM Alright here's the deal, I'm getting into cg after being away for about 10 yrs(!) all I have is a small shuttle pc, with an athlon xp 1.5, with a gig of ram and only 2 pci slots for expansion (hey you have to pay the price somewhere for something that's the size of a toaster.)..hardly a 3d dream machine I know, I was wondering if I threw some sort of nvidia pci card in there if I'd see much of a performance gain running softimage? any card/technical recommendations would greatly be appreciated. side note: man I can't believe how much things have changed since 3d studio r3!!! haha.

Are you sure its only got two PCI slots? I have a shuttle and it has an one AGP and one PCI slot.
I don't think there are many pci graphics cards about, last one I saw was a voodoo 1, a very long time ago. I don't think the pci bus can transfer enough information for most modern graphics cards.

yeah I'm pretty sure, it's just 2 pci slots, it's about 2-3 yrs old it's an ss40g...I bought it for use as an audio workstation and thought "bah who needs AGP, I'm not doing graphics on it or anything...well I've decided to get back into graphics after a 10 yr absence...I'll find something, might not be the fastest but compared to what I used to work with it'll seem sweet to me.
