View Full Version : multi-bitmap materials question
subpixel 10-12-2002, 07:39 AM I'm modeling a turning page, and need to apply
two bitmaps, one to each side of the page. How
do I go about doing that?
The page is a boned, meshed, thin box. I've tried
making a composite material and applying that to the
page with two UVW Map modifiers set to two different
channels. (One UVW Map gizmo is flipped for the
other side of the page.) The composite material
has two standard materials with diffuse bitmaps
assigned to the appropriate channels.
but it doesn't work.
any help / ideas for a semi-newbie?

Thats the way I would do it... strange it isn't working. I'm a newb too tho.
Maybe its the order of your stack, I think that somehow affects the mapping coords in a big way. Could be that the bend and bones, are just confusing the UVW map and stuffing it around.
I don't have any other suggestions, sorry. Hope that helps anyway. :)

I wouldn't use the Composite material, I would go for the Multi/Sub-object material. Try that, and yell out if it's still not working. I recall the Composite material as a tricky little fellah' at times. Anyways, your problem sounds like a typical Multi/Sub-object scenario to me.

Well, since it's a page with two sides... Double Sided might work too, eh? Heck, at that rate you might not even need to screw around with separate Mapping channels, since the thing is flat... just flip the one on the back side, and there you go.

You could go into subd. poly mode, and assigne one material for all the poly's on the top side of the page, and the other material for the pther side...
simple...

I got a question thats related to this, what if u wanted to layer difuse bitmaps on 1 material is that possible? Or can 1 material only support one diffuse bitmap?

Use a mix map in the diffuse channel, read up on the mix map in the max help
