Great stuff. The cinematics are impressive and I don't think it's cliche, I really like the post apocalyptic sci-fi look, swords and guns based in an existing city helps set everything in a certain kinda reality.

The in-game screenshots don't look THAT fantastic though, maybe when a gameplay footage comes out we can better judge that.

In all, I'd say this is good stuff. The cinematic really caught my attention and first impressions always count, I'm just looking forward to gameplay now.

There is a game play vid on gametrailers.com. The game doesn't look that impressive, the cinematic trailer looked pretty damn hot. Well done on that guys.

Wow :applause:!

Excellent stuff. I usually like cinematic stuff from games more than the games themself. Most of the time ;)

Normally, I'm not a fan of cheesy, over-the-top action, but this one made me laugh, in a good way. It was done very well, and when she pulled the sword out of the creature's ass and burned off the gore on the blade with a energy charge, I hollered. My wife came into the room wondering what was so funny, so I showed her the whole trailer. Her comment before leaving the room was, "3D is so cool." :D

Silvermyst (http://member.php?u=34283)-"were you on as tight a schedule as the Warhammer cinematic for this one?"

We were on a very tight ass schedule still, we had roughly 3 months to finish.
The scope of this project was way bigger than warhammer was.
It was still fun to work on though.

And if you didnt get chance to check the game out at E3, it was pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Thanks for all the responses so far. The team busted ass on that one and it's great to see the hard work appreciated.
The trailer was completed over a period of roughly 2 1/2 - 3 months, the last one being a little crazy, since there was so many shots to deal with, and we had to share our ressources with all the other E3 projects we had going on at the same time.
I cannot thank Flagship studios enough for being such cool clients, they gave us a lot of creative freedom and everybody enjoyed working on it like it was one of our own shorts. I encourage everybody to check their game out, cause it looks like it's really going to be a huge hit.

Here's a few stills from the trailer for those who want to check what it looks like before they download it.

Guess they left Blizzard 'cause they wanted more creative freedom, it's usually like that isn't it?

But i'll be checking the game for sure, seems like a worthy product!

Tried downloading yesterday, 4 hours in and the connection failed, today after 6 hours I finally got it.
Was it worth it? Hell Yes! I'm still in a state of shock.

The only thing is now I want to create something similar myself, which just isn't going to happen in the real world. I can dream though.

People on slow connections should definitely go to the Flagship website and try the smaller versions

Hey,

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Having a nice feedback from our clients is already cool, but nice feedback from the 3d community itself really feels like the best reward to me.

It makes all the hard work and the sleepless nights we put in, even more worth it.

The only thing I'd change is the female's eyes. they move weirdly. As if the object she's focusing on is parented to the head of her character instead of the world.

Eyes just don't move that way. And the soul is in the eyes.

But the Textures, lighting, animation and story are very well-done.

That's an insane amount of shots and work for 3 months especially of this quality. How many guys did you have working on it? It would be nice to have another indepth article on it like the Warhammer piece.

It's already been said how long it took to produce, but I'm just wondering how many people worked on it and it what capacities.

WOW...Jimmny Crickets Batman! that was awesome....I cant wait to see What Blur turns out when they do get to doing Animated films...

Well, I can tell you that just on the animation aspect :

approximately 7 weeks of animation, with an average crew of 6 animators (and a couple more over the last week).

It's a mix of mocap and keyframe, as Jed previously stated. Obviously, all acrobatic jumps and moves are keyframed, and there's a few shots where we were not happy with the mocap data and decided to keyframe everything again from scratch.

I think when I put his head on the hellmeat ...we all realised who he realy is....in fact ,he is the hellmeat! Thank Tim for pushing everybody so hard ,at the end it's always worth it!

Great looking cinematic.

Character modeling was spread over 5 guys, Environments 3, with some extra help from Matte painter extraordinaire Dylan Cole (http://www.dylancolestudio.com/index2.html) on the last wide shot of London. Then what we call scene assembly (lighting, rendering and compositing) was handled by a core team of 5 guys ( with the extra help of another two at the end) over a period of 5-6 weeks, with Slime preparing 90% of the FX work and either passing them on to the Scene assemblers for render or finishing them himself. We went as high as having 3 FX artists onboard the last couple weeks, though.
The core team working on Hellgate was really not that big if you consider that 2 character modelers and 3 environment modellers also followed up with Scene assembly up until the end. It was amazing to see how fast these guys pulled everything together in such a short period of time.

meh... it's not perfect coz you wouldn't be able to see St. Paul in that shot ... unless the demonic hoards moved it.... just kidding it's beautiful, really love the the style, the action, the design and the attitude of the two (the cleaning up of the sword is just brilliant) ... a behind the scenes would be great
