Well.. i am about to do the FIRST dvd , and i can not go wrong here .... (deadline over my head)

I am rendering animations in 3Dmax , output for now is TGA slightly smaller than a full PAL (to save render time, although i expect it to be a little grainy...itīs 640 x compatible1.333 ratio)

so, after impoting everything, i will have about 6000 frames, and with simple transitions.

All i need is for the DVD to autostart , or have a small "GO!!" button....

I guess my heaviest daoubt is the format for the final AE export..

what is the worflow i have to follow (Import, strech to full PAL,save as what format??,manu etc..)

What will be the best authoring Software for that , will Encore do the trick ??

Can i bypass encore and do all the job in AE ??

Guys, as always with Everyone, I HAVE NO TIME, so simple is better, and i have to do all right at FIRST SHOT !!! :-) :-)

You need to make your image sequence 720 by 576 pixels, otherwise DVD authoring programs will give you an error or warning. You need to use e.g. Encore 'cos AE won't create all the extra info and data structures required for a proper DVD - it only exports an MPEG-II stream. If your video clip is the only clip on your DVD, you need not worry to about anything. It will be the first program chain (PGC) in the first video title set (VTS) and hence be used automatically.

Thanks a lot ..

this is why i am passing through AE ... to "strech" the file , or maybe to get a black frame in the missing space ..

is the other way possiable ? import simple frames to Encore and Bypassing AE ?? (assuming i have no PP to do ..)

will it also loop by itself or do i need to give it some command ??

Thanks again ..

Iīm not to familar with dvd authoring, but when I made a looping dvd (in dvd studio pro, on mac) I had to put in a command to make it loop. I think it was some kind of marker that told the dvd to go to the beginning of the dvd at the end of the clip.

Yeah, indeed Encore will do the encoding when you create the DVD so AE is not a must. Personally I find it just irritating 'cos until you see the real encoded stuff there is no way to predict quality and file sizes.

Nope. Except for the autostart command (normally in technical terms "jump to first VTS and open the first PGC you find") all other commands have to be explicitly assigned - be it menus, buttons, subpictures, jumps, stream switching and whatnot... But don't worry, it's no more than two or three mouse clicks. I'm sure in Encore there is a simple playback option for each track/ PGC that would allow you to turn on looping.

Thanks for all the quick answers .. :-)

i forgot two more.. :-)
if the DVD is autorun like i said before, so a menu is not a must , is that right ?

and the next one is more tricky i guess...
Will the DVD weight 4.7 regardless of what iīm putting inside, or does a 3 minute film will weight just a part of it , letīs say 700 - 1200 Mb ?

Yepp, correct. No menu necessary.

No, 3 minutes will actually be more like 250 MB. You have a maximum data rate of about 9 Mbit/sec available for all streams (video, audio, subpictures etc.) so you could squeeze about 45 minutes at this high data rate on one disc (more with lower data rates). Due to the formatting required for DVD(Video) burning still takes rather long compared to a data disc and effectively you only have about 4,3 GB (video DVD uses a rather large fixed sector sizes so not all sectors are fully writable with data due to overhead).
