View Full Version : Simple Soft Shadows
Arkon11 05-20-2005, 09:44 PM What i want to know is how to obtain simple soft shadows without using vray or metal ray as the renderer. I want this to work with the plain old scanline. If you could help me that would be great.

Try using "area shadows"
then in the modify panel, go to "area shadow" dropbox
and adjust the length and width of the area light dimensions
also in that dropbox, try experimenting with the light shapes...

Use standard shadow mapped shadows, and play with the sampling settings.
Advanced raytrace shadows also have options like 'spread' for effects like this.
There is a dome light technique for fast scanline GI-looking shadows and a script to create the array of lights in one click, and they are NOT in the manual barbapapa. Search here and google for dome light max.
EDIT: Here (http://home.wanadoo.nl/r.j.o/skyraider/e-light.htm) I've dug it up as I need it too.

well, Ls3D thats is NOT my point, what im saying is that is a really easy problem that can be solved searching either on the internet or in the manual (i don know the manual by heart by the way, so i dont know every coma on it) you just have to put the rigth words and boom you have loads of answers and is faster than waiting for someone to post and solve the problem for you. and THAT is my point
