View Full Version : How to texture something like a tree
jsh3d 10-11-2002, 10:38 PM I'm working on something that requires that there be some trees in it. I've modeled (something I'm fairly good at ;)) a few trees that are like what I want. They are all one mesh, the branches and all. Now, I've got to texture it :hmm: . I really don't know what to do. I've got all of the maps that I want aleady, no problem, but I don't know how to apply them to this tree. Every mapping I use doesn't seem to work very good. Do any of you have any suggestons about how to do this? I'm using softimage XSI, but it can do all of the regular mappings and stuff, so it doesn't really matter what software is used, if you know how to do this. This is a poly model, btw, so UV doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm a real n00b to textureing, and I'm not very good at it at all ;). Anyway, if anybody knows how to do this, that'd be great :D. I've always wondered how you'd go about this, and this would save my skin textureing these tree ;).
I'll post a pic of the trees in a little wile
Thanks a whole lot :D!

ok, heres a pic :). I'm trying to texture the 3 trees. There are also some other tree like things I need to texture, but the trees are the main problem.

Anybody? This would really help me out a lot :). I've been trying to figure it out for about a week now, and I haven't been able to. I know that this is asking a lot, but doesn't anybody know how to do this? I don't even need any details on how to do it, just a suggestion :).
Thanks a lot

Thanks for trying :). Yah, It could be converted to numbs, I've tried this. But, it dosn't work at all ;). It wasn't included in the program (you have to do it from the command line) and it sucks so bad that it was a good thing that they didn't include it. Thats not softimages fault or anything, converting to nurbs is not a fun thing ;). Well, I'm going to keep working on trying to figure it out.
Leigh? Any suggestions :D

I think that I have something worked out :). I've got cylander and XZ projection, and I'm using a weight map to mix them. Not perfect, but it works :).
