now before u all start laughing...the model IS ment to be that simple and look lyk that. Its the girl logo for a famous skate brand. Now my intentions are to make the girl skate around and do all kinda of mad stuff, but i dont kno how the bones would be setup. It seems to simple which makes it hard, but i dunno...ive never animated before...so your help would be much appreciated.
cheers

Try simple human skeleton structure without fingers and toes. Maybe 2 chain arm and leg are enough so no ankles no wrists. Skirt may need extra skeletons, but don't do any complex system. Only 1 skeleton for both sides. Just create those and try rotating them around and you will see is taht system ok or not.

Good luck.

what software are you using ? 3dsmax comes with a good rigging tutorial and it should teach you enough rigging basics to get you started with this character.

Thanks for your help so far...
Yea im using max, i sussed out that tut, had a quick skim, but didnt really let it sink in, ill go back and try it again. Ok, another question, how many divisions should the model have. In the leg there is only one in the middle of the leg. Should it be SUBD alot more?

Do some quick tests with simple cylinder or box with different segments and find nice count of polygons.

Simply...

1. Create cylinder with 2 seg for hight.
2. Create bones.
3. Add skin -modifier and envelope it.
4. Rotate bone and check how mesh deforms.

5. Create another cylinder with 4 segs for hight.
6. Move vertexes closer together so you get some kind of knee or elbow.
7. Again, add skin-modifier to it and envelope.
8. Rotate bone and check how those extra segments affects for deformation.

Testing testing!!!

And yes, only one seg is no good. Anyway, do those tests and you will understand why.

well after a good 3hrs working, i cant seem to work it out. I have it bending and such, but its all creased. i know how to do it, but not how to do it...does that make sense. I was wondering if someone had a few minutes spare they could show me how to do one leg, with the correct envelopes and such. This would be a big help, but if its to much then dont worry, i just need to see it dun to understand compltely. If its to much then never mind...but thanks heaps if u could help me out.

ok so i got the rig working...and its all sweet...after alot of tweeking. Now i have a really noob question. It was posing the model fine just before. But now, ill go to rotate a bone, and its all sweet. Then ill go to rotate another bone, and the first bone will snap back to its original position. Whats happening? So frustrating...
Thanks for any help
