oki guys I promised, here you go:
http://the3d.ws/artists/lobo971/pirateposter.jpg

The space dogfighter is made of parts of a P61 and F4U1 planes.. then i builded up the rest. rendered with Arnold. I want to go a little further on details (beer pack, ) and connection pipes comming from the ground. Then I 'll go for highres rendering.

YEAAAAHHHH BOOOYYYY! That's what I'm talkin about. How much :)

What's up with his left hand.... is it different from the challenge model?

Chewey

I like it! Not sure that model would pass the wind tunnel test, but it passes the "cool lookin" test.

Its hard to work out the form of his head, at my first look I thought it was santa. Other than that, its great. Love your use of colors:)

Sweet

Kind of reminds me of a character from that spin off of the jungle book but modern day. The one where Baloo is a pilot who's always getting in trouble...and there's that kid bear who sky surfs. Yeah those were the times

Can we get a high res one? :) Something mean like 1600

Sweet! I love the fisheye lense effect. I'd thin kthat guy'd have more of a tan being outside with his shirt open though ;)

Wild plane too, man!

Thats great, man. I would agree with JimmyO about the head being hard to distinguish. I'm not sure what type of character I'm looking at. The whole thing is marvelous, though.

thats cool. are you going to put in a background?... the white is a bit over powering through the whole image.

like on the naked arm, forehead, background, can lid and parts of the concrete ground.

"white washed" is what i mean.

but yea, damn fine piccy... i'm just offering fine tuning suggestions.

excellent work as usual Pascal...what else can I say :)

Hey Pascal,

I definitely like where you're going on this one.

I'd like to see some highlights somewhere that aren't so diffuse. Everything looks like it's in a haze. I realize this is a popular setting with the Brazil renderer, but I prefer distinct highlight and shadow areas as opposed to the fuzziness created by some settings of the Brazil renderer -- although I know the Brazil renderer has the ability to do everything, so I'm not knocking it.

For all of the detail in the upper torso of your guy and in the planes, your guy's pants seem to be lacking detail. I don't detect the physical form of the leg anywhere in that photo - unless, of course, his leg looks like a big sausage :).

I also think that you need some staining around the nose of the plane and around each engine. It just looks too clean, particularly the yellow.

I love what you're doing with the hoses criss-crossing the scene. It definitely helps to break up the space nicely. Also, the 3/4 view of the plane is nice.

One thing I'd look at, as far as composition, is the pose of your guy. Something about the setup of his body seems too symmetrical. His arms and hands are posed in what seems to be the exact same pose. While that may be natural, it jumps out at me as being misplaced in the composition.

I dig your models, Pascal. For me, the washed out look of the Brazil renderer settings you've chosen takes away from the enjoyment I get from looking at the detail you put into your work. All of my comments may be mute if I were to look at a hi-rez version of this image, but I'm working with what I've got.

Keep up the great, inspirational work, Pascal.

Regards,

Alec

Oops. Damn. I was flipping around so many images I guess I was remembering the text from another. My fault.

My critique stands, though, Brazil or not. So there :P

ah yes this is looking very good pascal, BUT in my opinion, you try to hard to get the airplane into the image. the composition is way of because of that.

The plane should be complementary to the character, at least, if the character is to be the main focus of the image. I think it would be a lot better if you zoom in on the character and let the plane drop outoff the frame in certain areas . . .

I see some impressive texturing on the guy's pectorals.
Please tell me something. At some of your chars, did u use textures that simulate shadows to make the chars muscles???

This is wonderfull work Pascal...as usual!! :D
i like the composition, but a agree with Equinoxx when he says to focus on the character...

Just one critic: i don't find in this picture, the ambience that you always put on your pictures (Maybe no Ambient color?...)

hi pascal
this one look incredible... !!
but i should admit with the other people that the plane is to much in the " focus "
and ihmo it would may be more funny if the plane could be in a nice crimson red color ( maybe with some skull and crosbow on the wing and rudder ? )
and have a more old and rusty look ( with some gun impact and scratch ?? )

combien va couter le poster ??
et je le commande comment ?

Although I can understand others who'd like to see more of the focus placed on the character, I like being able to see the vehicle and would like to see some other shots of it.

Pascal, how large are the texture maps you created for the vehicle? The colors you used for it look really nice. When you say you used Arnold for the render I'm assuming that you're not using pmg's messiah studio but the original version that most of us do not have access to.

Chewey: yup i'm one of the lucky users of Maxarni, the Max version of Arnold..
Christoph.. yup good idea , I will think about it...
Hard to find a good angle for the poster tho.. I think I will come back to my classic picts and mood (You're right about that Totish)focusing on the character, using the plane as background, and make a better version of this one with more room on the left for wallpaper.. I will put the poster on Zazzle.com, if I don`t find another solution.

Matt_Forcum
02-17-2002, 11:27 PM
wow, I hate you man! :D j/k anyways, I think a lower angle shot and a longer lens will make the poster look better. I think its ok if the plane is clipped off at the edges. The center of intrest should be the character anyway. Also, i think you may want to consider changing some of the colors to unify the piece. like the orange on the plane for example. I dont know, you know better than me! it looks great man. post some updates!

Ahhh, great! Another Blanche coming up :)

I aggree with the comments concerning the plane being too dominant though. It's the character we're interested in, not necessarily the plane.

But what bugs me more is your less thought out color scheme. You usually stay with fairly uniform, subdued colors but now there are all kinds of them and all over! What I mean is that there doesn't seem to be any overall consistancy. I also aggree with ACFred about the washed out look...there doesn't seem to be enough light/dark contrast there.

Your other pictures are so fantastically full of mood. I just want to see that usual "Pascal-Blancheness" in this one again ;)

finally finished it! http://www.gamegen.com/fightgen/characters/deejay-winpose1.gif
Because lots of people asked for it, I went back to the general ambiance, more "pascal touch like" I guess :p And well, I have to admit that it is better this way... check it out on my web'site's gallery (http://www.3dluvr.com/pascalb)

hey pascal..!!!
nice work... efinetly the image works better.!!!!
i love it...
if you are going to sell it ..( ill but it)!!
seriusly!!

i dont know if i will get the pic or the poster..
if its the poster then ill buy it!!!
if its the pic... then ill buy it... and then ill print it... i own a digital printing place so ill print it all nice in canvas paper!!!
( sweet!!!)

just one thing though

i know youve worked alot on the image and i dont want to tell you to fix it... but just one detail... the hand that doesn't have the beer might look better if it was grabing onto the wing or....
if it was a bit more loose... ( looks a bit tense)
but if you don't fex it...it really doesn't matter.. IT LOOKS GREAT!!

sincerely

Wonderfull picture!!! (J'la vois! J'la voit! :D :D
Je sais pas pourquoi elle ne s'affichait pas chez moi??? )

The general ambiance is really better!
The focus on the character too(Althrough the plane design was great!)!!!
A "master stuff" !!!

Ton model est vraiment vivant!
J'arrive pas a donner ce coté "réel" en 3d...(Le pantalon qui tombe, les grolles avachies )...Mes modèles font toujours un peu "Jouet"...Peut-être un manque de détail??
(et de talent... :( :p )

I vote for you...What??? The pirate challenge is finish??? :D

Sweeeet Pascal. Very nice pose!

The only thing that doesn't really convince me is the color composition and lighting of the pic. It doesn't really stand out as much as your other works. I mentioned it in an earlier post but I still think there is no coherent color scheme. You could for example gel the orange and the red more into eachother by using a more orange/reddish light in the top half of the pic. I also don't know if it's the bane of GI but the lighting seems a bit too simple...less mood than your other pieces, almost as if you just made a snapshot of a toymodel. If that was what you were after, then that's cool...but it would be a great change of your style then ;)

Don't get me wrong...it's a cool piece. But you've set a high standard for yourself :)

thx for the replies and constructive crits (wiro ;) )
the thing is that I used Arnold for this one: GI and fish eye adds lots of "realistic touch" and change a bit the mood of my usual picts (more photorealistic, less painted like) but I want to keep on trying this way... We'll se what I get with my next pict.
