View Full Version : Partition and Overrides help
greyface 05-19-2005, 12:19 AM Hey, I'm currently working on a robot which needs plastic and rubber parts. I've set up a seperate pass for reflection, and another for diffuse/ambient, now the problem is I would like some of the CLUSTERs of the mesh to have a different material than the rest of the mesh - but as materials are setup in partitions, the cluster is assigned that same material. I tried using an override on the cluster, and didn't manage to get that to work either.
Got any ideas? I'd just like some clusters to belong to a seperate partition, or use a different material than the partiion one.
Any help appreciated.

This is why you shouldn't ever use clusters for direct material application... however, v2n just showed a way it can be worked around.

Hey, thanks a lot for that link, I'll try it out! You said clusters aren't the best way to deal with this.. how would you do it? I'd like the different materials to remain in one object as I'm going to animate it and deform it...

Pproach it in the same manner as this thread... it was described specifically for multiple UV sets, but it works with multiple materials as well:
