View Full Version : Chain Necklace Rig??

sUp,

Please excuse me if this type of question was posted before, and if you can be so kind to direct me to it.


In Maya, I have a character thats wearing a chain around his neck.
I want to animate the chain swaying side to side, back and forth. Now, i dont really want to animate every link. I rather control it from a locator at the end of the chain.

These are the steps I've been taking.
1. I parent all my chain links to each of its own bone.
2. Made two spline iks, one for the right and left side of the chain.
3. Rebuilt the 2 spline IK curves to match the CVs with the # of joints
4. Grouped The 2 chian IK to each other (ChainIK_Grp)
5. Created a locator and made the ChainIK_Grp child to it

Now when i moved the locator, only the first links closest to the locator would move, but the others just would stay. Is there some step I'm leaving out to have the locator move all the links???


I've posted a couple of pics to give you an idea of what i'm talking about.

second is a crude drawing of how my necklace should sway side to side. The red means where the splineIK starts (near the neck) and ends (at the clock's link)
