View Full Version : Export Animation => MAX
modena 10-11-2002, 05:28 AM I've baked out a dynamic simulation using Maya4.5...
now I want to bring the animated object back into Max4...
what is the best export/import module available for doing this?
Cheers

Normaly I would have answered Filmbox (FBX) from kaydara.com. Works like a dream when it comes to exporting poly's with UV's and pretty good with animation. You got a pretty special situation however with dynamics and stuff but since it's baked I guess it would work.
BUT, I've learned from a thread earlier this week that currently there are no working interchange format plugs for 4.5 yet. i.e. FBX does not support Maya 4.5 yet. So meanwhile I guess you'll have to deal with the OBJ exporter...

can the OBJ exporter export deformation info? Can a facial animation sequence be loaded into MAX?
Deep Exploration works with Maya 4.5. How well I'm not sure.

...use FBX exporter for maya 4.0 if you have it... just bake out your objects [etc] then save the file and change the header to accomodate 4.0...open it in 4.0 then export as FBX...import FBX to MAX...it is that simple :)

I've tried with their demo, and when I try to export a max mesh to maya format it always tells me "Maya installation not found!". I presumed thats cause its looking for a maya 4.0 entry in the system reg or something... but maybe its just the installation on my system gone buggy
You have to download the new plugins for Max 5/Maya 4.5 on the RH site (Forums area).
