Level / Environmental Artist
BioWare Corp. is the developer of the award winning Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Shadows of Amn, Tales of the Sword Coast, MDK2 and Shattered Steel, as well as the current developer of the much anticipated Jade Empire and Dragon Age. BioWare is looking for 3D artists with meticulous modeling and texturing abilities to do level / environmental art. The successful applicants must:
show an understanding of color theory, and be able to create balanced & appealing color palettes;
understand the aesthetics of environment, function vs. form relationships, as well as what makes a game level fun and intriguing;
be a good communicator;
work well in a team spanning artists, programmers, and designers;
be able to teach and be taught.
Architectural and drafting experience are assets, as are previous game experience and level design.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Create models of 3D environments, map predefined textures, create new textures.
Closely follow art and design concepts.
Adhere to the defined technical limitations and constraints when building your level.
Test and troubleshoot areas that are not working in the game engine and proactively fix them.
Be creative and anticipate needs toward your level’s design.
Participate in critiquing your work and the work of others.
Communicate deadlines and difficulties to your art director.
Communicate and work with the designers and programmers to make the level playable and enjoyable.
Be meticulous and organized in the approach to the tasks, files and storage of the material.
Be enthusiastic and ready to take on challenges.
Maintain pacing in situations of intense schedules.
