View Full Version : Modeler: Rail Extrude
simon-s 05-15-2005, 11:40 AM Hi, I have just moved over to lightwave 8 from 7.5 and I am slightly confused about the new rail extrude tool...
The tool is now called rail extrude: multiple, and it doesnt seem to do anything. I cant seem to make it work like the previous rail extrude.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

It should work exactly as in 7.5. Nothing changed to the rail extrude tool in about a century ;-)
Curve in background, object in foreground ( aligned to curve ) and extrude away.

Maybe the rail Extrude plugin tool is not attached to the Rail Extrude button ? You could check the menu layout to see what is attached to that button.

It turns out that I had multiple splines in the background layer....
When I then hit rail extrude, it causes "rail extrude: multiple" to activate. Which is what doesnt seem to do anything at all?????
When I use only one spline in BG layer (as i normally would) and hit rail extrude, i get "rail extrude:single" which behaves as normal.
Panic over!

Actually, multiple rail extrude is pretty cool. Take two curves for example, and bring their front ends close together. Then in another layer, make say, a disc that encompasses both curve ends. Then run the multiple extrude and see what happens.
