View Full Version : Neon help?...

Hi all

I need help to start me off on my next personal project. I want to create neon lettering/signage similar to the tacky porn shop/movie signage we see in the red light districts of the big capital cities around the world.

I've checked out a tut on the maxon site, but it's a version 5 tut, so it's not good to me (XL7.3).

What I'd like to do is to create neon tube lettering with a nice glow, but... I'd like the glass tube to be visible/obvious glass with some reflection/environment/depth. Is that possible?

Any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated as always.

This is where I am at the moment.

The sign is two objects... a sweep nurbs copied with different size swept circle splines.

can't seem to get an intense glow, could I do it with some sort of light set-up rather than the glow parameter in the materials dialogue?

cheers

I would add some brightness in the luminance channel to go along with the glow. Then you might even add radiosity to make the neon emit light.

The thing that makes neon come alive is the contrast of its background :) ,the darker it is the more the neon effect will stand out.

you can still do that tutorial provided you use DiTools DiCloner to put lights on the points of your spline...

Well you don't have to use the radiosity, he was suggesting that as it will help the illusion that its actually casting the light, but as for that actual light it definitleyneeds some luminance in it, rightnow it doesn't look like it could cast light.
