Title: Room
Name: Darin Beard
Country: United States
Software: Photoshop

Creating a life-like room with a TV being the main source of light was the challenge I gave myself. Texturing and lighting were the key focus in this project. Built using LightWave 7.5 and finished out in 8.2. Textures were created in Photoshop. Final rendering was done using FPrime. Comments requested.

Very nice lightning and texturing.

My only critic is the background image. I donīt think it fits the scene so well. It looks like a cartoon bg.

good work.

room passes for a real room but for these items: the chairs ( the textures seem off )
The tables ( the wood texture matches the floor to much, change color and size)
The lamp (needs to have some specularity and gloss in it)
The widow back drop (add some clouds to the sky tracer background sky and scale it.)

again good work. :wip:

Actually, the background isn't sky tracer. Maybe it should be. It's actually a very nice photograph of one of the most gorgeous sunsets I've ever seen.

The lamp has specularity on it but the light is so diffused in the room it's just not pronounced in this image.

It's funny the things different people pick out. I never even considered the background photo being the thing most people would dislike.

Hey nice interior render. I really dont have much to say about it. Just a question: what season is the chapter of xfiles on the tv? :P

Nice room. Im not a fan of the furniture though, i think a better couch and chair would do a lot for this image.

I love it... lighting everything... I agree that the sky through the window does look wrong... If you were to take a photo of that same sky with the same camera setings as you would have for a photo of a room lit by a TV I think the sky would come out alot darker... I hope i made sence there :D

And don't cha jus love fprime...

Thanks for the kind comments.

Kinelco - I got to thinking about your "sky would be darker" thought and actually I believe since the aperture would have to be opened way up and/or the exposure be longer to account for the low lit room, the sky outside would actually be brighter than normal. I hadn't really thought of that before. The only reason that particular sunset image is back there is because it was a beautiful HDR image that I found and wanted to use it somewhere.

Just as an fyi, the floor and the wooden furniture (coffee table and end tables) are both light, yes. But they are not the same textures. It is feasable for someone to have both light floor and light wood furniture I would suppose. Here are a couple of samples taken from both textures showing they are indeed different textures.

After posting my comment i realised it might be debateable... It does depend on how bright the sunset is... and if it is a particularly unusually nice sunset that might be why it stands out... afterall we can only see what is effectively a grad... I love your work and its fine the way it is I'm just nit picking...:D

I went back and looked at the sunset background HDR again and realized that I could really zoom way out on it to show more sunset. I am not sure what my thinking was on having just that little bit of gradient showing. Here's a miniature shot of that image.

I have updated this image with a few tweaks. I changed the floor texture to be a different wood because it was too close to the furniture wood color. I also tweaked the sunset background outside of the window.
