View Full Version : Daily Sketch 342: PRODUCTION DESIGN: "Star Wars: Medieval China"
05-13-2005, 12:42 PM
I want to try an experiment for one week.
The idea is that a movie Title will be mentioned (Real or Fictional), and we will design
equipment, costumes and environments. As always we will have only a day.
- Star Wars: Medieval China: "
No technology, just plain old-fashioned jedi.
And dont forget to post your topics HERE: Production Desing Week. (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=233926)
We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.
These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.
PS To submit your topic ideas and suggestions go to this thread:

Have spent about 3/4 hour on this but am getting very frustrated as painting entire scenes and landscapes isn't my forte.
The Sith Samurai is riding a traditional Chinese Red Lion (Nope, not a giant frog despite what it might look like). As you can see there's a traditional bonsai type tree in the background. I could add some more detail to this but I doubt it's going to get much better. Some of you guys are far better at painting scenes like this so I'd be very grateful for any suggestions that might help. Whether to add extra colours improve lighting consistency or whether to just keep at it ?
Also here's a quick sketch of a Chinese Twilek. I worry about becoming too much of a geek sometimes as this might only be one step away from creating furry art. It took about an hour in Photoshop.
BTW I Used this image www.tomclive.co.uk/AsianGirl.jpg as a reference - it's very Low-Res but I liked the shape of her mouth and eyes which is why I used it.

My idea behind this image is an apprentice learning the use of the Force by fighting against his master blindfolded.

I kinda strayed into super kungfu - Enter the dragon style..
the sketch took 10 mins and then 3 hours to clean up in PS - and not real happy with it either - eh.
sabretooth + andrewley - nice ones - I automatically imagined wicked samurai style pictures when I saw the topic..

I focused more on the Vader outfit.
Those are actually color bladed swords, not light sabers. Didn't do so good with that.

Oops, I guess my sketch is looking a little bit off topic:shrug:
It is surely lacking the Star Wars feeling that everyone has put in their sketches.
Big thumbs up for Andrewley!
Grondhammar - That stuff is hillarious! Very nice!:D

It sucks quite badly, and I'm not sure where it was going, but I'll put up what I've done anyway... need to get more motivated to fix my bad sketches!

It was really neat to see what people came up with. I had a lot of fun with this one, as it was close to the heart. Star Wars of course, but I also train and teach Kung Fu, so I couldnt resist this one. Thanks for the encouragement!

Ha Hookswords! I had to explain "That's no moon" to my wife, she had no idea why I was laughing so much. Very funny, thanks for the giggles.
