i am kinda dissapointed i really like perfect dark but oh my goodness graphically the game looks like it should have been on a current gen console, the GC could have pulled of better and i am serious. But yes I guess it had most of its development on the GC platform and xbox 1, and it is gameplay that counts..

Damn, looks like all of those assests are from the gc or xbox dev period. How are they going to make this look good by launch time? Very disappointing considering that PD was arguably the most graphically impressive game on the N64 (yes, I care about graphics).

can't see anything [FF or IE???]

from the videos i saw [for a second] on the MTV special, its looked cool. they went with a different style which is great. i like when games like Wind Waker or TimeSplitters do something different. and did i hear it wrong, i swear the guy said up to 55 people playing at 1 time in the same game? i'm i wrong?

How long have they sepnt on this game!!! and it looks like that!

Some seriously bad management desicions have been made during this games development, that is clear to see.

If they use this as a launch game, its going to make the Xbox360 look bad - this game would look sub-standard on the current Xbox, compared to the likes of Doom3, HL2!

Here you go:

Notice the complex lighting on the main charater - a total of ONE light source! Amazing!

Come on guys, these are old screens, and for some reason the pictures has been removed from the site again (hint hint) .. dont sweat fellas. PDZ WILL deliver, I have no doubt in my mind. forget those pics, and watch the mtv video of PDZ... that'll change your mind :)

That MTV Video looks exactly the same, so what's the big deal? It looks like a Cube/Xbox Game - Compared to something like "Gear of War", it's just sad. Rare, where did you go? :(

Well. It won't be released yet for another half a year don't forget. Also, what made PD so cool was the gameplay. And what stood out the most was all the multiplayer modes. Remember all the GUI distortions with this game? It was surreal and way ahead of its time.

I'm still very interested in this game. Even if it looks like that.

Hopefully they can make Co-op over Live a reality.

It's likely that the reason for this is that the game was supposed to be made for the Xbox but then was moved to Xbox 360 to make it a launch title for the console.

I remember back when Microsoft bought Rare, all of my friends were ranting about how cool it would be to play Perfect Dark on their X-Boxes, and I just laughed because I figured they'd just never get around to making it, and when it DID come out it'd likely suck, like Star Fox Adventures.

Sure enough, it didn't even make the X-Boxes life span, and it's probably going to be just as dissapointing as Star Fox Adventures.

Remember, Rare only owns the licence to the game. The team that actually made Perfect Dark left a while back and went on to do Timesplitters.

I think Rare whould get the rights to do 007 games again. EA has just made 1 crap game after another...

Man - this game would look weak on Xbox 1 nevermind 360. I think Rare's other games are in a similar state. I hate to see this as they where such an awesome British developer back in the N64 day's. I think they have lost a lot of talented people along the way.

yup, weak weak weak, if this is an indication of the 360's abilities than im sorely saddened.. actually let me rephrase that, im sorely disgusted.

edit: BTW! andrewly, I just noticed you posted in here.. what happened to you in the DSG? I always loved seeing your sketches.. :)

"This is the caveat given as Botwood prepares to show off PDZ for the first time. Running on alpha Xbox 360 development kits (machines that possess only two of the three CPU cores in the final spec, as well as a run-of-the-mill ATI graphics card as opposed to the final, custom GPU set), the game is still very much a work-in-progress. But even at this stage, it's enough to see where they want to go with it." http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=1&cId=3140401 (http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=1&cId=3140401) , 4th paragraph from the top.

I'm very sad to hear you guys talking badly about this game. the pics you've seen is obviosly very old, and the game is STILL 6 month before release...

The visuals look uninspired compared to Grabbed by the Goullies. They look just like any other 1st person shooter.

Just seen this screenshot on IGN, thankfully its looking a lot more next gen. I think those other screens must have been the xbox version, as the main character looks quite different now

Those crappy shots are from the build that they used for the MTV X360 special where they had the B celebrities playing it in death match. it's probably using the final art asset build (as in level and character geometry and textures), but stripped of the complex shaders in order to run on X800 equipped Mac dev kits. Imagine a high end PC game today with normal mapping turned off. Or Doom 3 running on simple mode on 5200FX vs high quality mode on 6800Ultra.

Try to remember that the extremely long/complex shader rountines for R500 (in XBox 360) will simply not run or run extremely slow on current gen PC cards like X800. keep in mind that the R500's unified shader pipeline acts like 48 shader pipelines when compared to something like X800 which has 16 pixel pipes and 6 vertex pipes (for total of 22). So the best thing to do for Rare was to simply turn those long/complex shaders off for the MTV special's death match where the frame rate they to be quite high to be playable. And without complex shaders, all the gorgeous lighting is gone.

Let's compare the shots with R500 shaders off and on (try to figure out which is which ;) ):

VS

I don't think I have to tell you which one is which. ;)
