I am new to this board and relatively new to Cinema 4D... and I have basically self taught myself some of this program. I took classes in Maya and those helped with what I can do now.. This is the current project im workin on... which hopefully lands me this job at a local graphics company. the stuff im doing blows theirs out of the water so I would think im a Shoe-in for the job. This is a portion of the first segment of my animation entitled, The Rings, The House, and the Starfleet Kraken. The rings are up first. its just a 5 second clip, one in wire and one fully rendered. Please give me feedback.

EDIT: I believe the site needs a few minutes to an hour to actually host the file... so if you get a 404 error, it means its not done with it yet.

EDIT2:apparently it does not like spaces in the title... so bare with me.

EDIT 3: OK everything works. just right click and save as.

Thanks for uploading. Imo, you should work a bit on the gold material of the rings. Also, there is a white line appearing a few times. Can you get rid of that?
Of course it's your choice, but doesn't the rotation make you feel dizzy? Perhaps slow down a bit, adding glow effects when close, examine the surface from real close?

Only some suggestions...

Also: do you think that now LOTR is finished, showing rings is the best way to get a job?

I think Erik had some good advice. If you're going for a job at a local graphics company then you should try and sell yourself and skills to them properly. If they're sports graphics sort of place then animate something along those lines. If they mostly do flying logos then animate your name or something. As an employer I look for someone who will be most suited to my client base and as such I'd like to see work that reflects that. Anyway that's just my cents.

As for the rings I agree I think the rotate is a little too fast and also as Erik mentioned you should tighten the gap between the planks to stop the flashes as you spin around. Also you need to bring your lighting up it's a bit dark at the moment.

Good luck with the job search

thanks for the input! i didnt notice that the planks were gapped like that. I did realize that the spin was pretty fast and I will resolve that. The company wanted to see something simple... and as a plus, i graduated high school with them so they just want to see my work.

Cool.

Well in that case keep posting updates and lets see how good you can get the rings to look

here is a question tho... how would I animate an increasing glow so to speak? or what erik said, have it glowing when your really close on it?

I know you can achieve a kind of dynamic animation from distance with Xpresso but if you don't know Xpresso (like me :) ) then you can animate it over time by right clicking on the glow value in the material editor and choosing Animation->Add Keyframe. This way you can adjust it as and where you want.

hmmmm I will have to definitely try that. Thanks for the tip.
