I was recently looking threw the concepts in 3D & Sculpture fourm at www.conceptart.org (http://www.conceptart.org) and stumbled upon the character redesign challenge. Seeing Sean McNally's Muppet babies sketch of Kermit and Piggy inspired me to work on some Half-Life 2 models of them (with Sean's permission of course).

This is the first of the two models thought it might be nice to share and get some feedback from you all.

If anyone has any experience with getting characters into hammer I could really use the help.

Yeah! He's putting the model in Hammer which is Half Life 2's engine. It supports very high poly counts and has a lot more features than UnrealEd 2.0 and the console engines.

It's very cool. I like it a lot. The concept is also really cool. Do you have a link to that page of Muppets redesign? Would love to check it out.

One very curious question. In your app usage section, I'm curious as to what Unfold3d is?
The reason why I ask is because I'm a big fan of DeepUV and use it quite heavily actually. As good as Maya and Max's UV tools are, there are some really nice alternative apps that really do the job in half the time.

Looks good, what does the unsmoothed mesh look like?

slight correction, podman - Hammer is HL2's level editor, Source is the engine.

Very cool...I like it...I dig the direction you've taken this in good job....minor crit tho'..but you've used a lot of polygon's in the hands, just seems a bit overkill....all the same solid proportions, texturing:thumbsup:

Yeah man, this take on Kermit rocks! I'd love to see how you'd handle Miss Piggy, or I guess how this version of Kermit would "handle" Miss Piggy. :D

Wow! thx everybody for the nice words, its always a great pay off for hard work.

Yes this is with meshsmooth on but there is very little dif in the way it looks ( just a little smoother on the edges) all the detail is done with normal maps. (it is only 6k polys). Ill post a non meshsmooth with a texture sheet shortly.

UNfold 3d is a auto uv mapping program that works amazingly well with a small amount of prep work, trust me when I first saw it on the site I found it hard to believe as well.

The concept is not really from a site but from another fourm.

Don't believe anything goofslapper says...he's a compulsive liar...I know him personally...

No seriously...he's a pretty talented guy who only wishes he could be as cool as me. He's fun to hang out with too as long as he dosen't whip out the leather chaps...
