Hello all,
I know its a bit late on to submit my first entry, but I found out just a couple of weeks ago about the contest and not until a few days ago had the idea for this concept. As the old saying goes, better late than never.

What I conceived for the contest was a more historical approach to the Master/Servant relationship. I know fictional work is much more popular among CGTalk members, but the subject is deserving of thought and consideration.
In the time the slave trade was going on from Africa to the Americas during the XVI until the XIX th century, europeans (mostly Portuguese and Dutch, then British) discovered an easier way to capture their \'merchandise\' than to raid african villages themselves. They allied millitary and commercially to a few tribes in the coast and would pay them to conquer and trade the prisioners made in other tribes using as barter currency mostly alcooholic beverages and tobbaco, and of course gun powder AND guns. Although the most obvious Capturer/Captive relation will be depicted, the emphasis is on the servitude of native africans to alcoolism.
It was the dual nature of the slavery that made me choose the subject. You could almost call it a \'Marxist\' approach to the theme, in the sense of his duality surface/core appearance/reality. But maybe Im just crazy because its still 6:14 am here. =D

Cheers,
Julia

Just sketches detailing the characters. Ill have to work hard on this if I want to make it in time. Hope to have line art by thursday the latest.
Ive been browsing around the finished entries and they look WAY cool! This is by far the best contest around qualitywise.

Oops. I replied to your message in my own thread. I'll get this figured out one day. Anyway, thank you for the boost - it was much needed and appreciated - and WOW, are you moving at light speed or what? How do you do that? And where can I get some? Hours away now, so I'll check in after this ends tonight. I suspect there are going to be a lot of little busy bees up burning the midnight oil. Thanks again, and the very best of luck with the challenge.. youcan do it!

Just checking in to see how it went. I see you lsot 3 hours of work.. gack, but I hate that.. did you make it? And hey.. cartoony, if that's where you are going with this, is just fine. Shake it off and move on with your own vision.

Best,
Adri
