I am wondering if anybody has any quick tips for automobile animations. My two main concerns are:

1. A simple IK rig to simulate suspension
2. Keeping the car "glued" to the road as it curves/banks/ect

Anybody have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not sure if it's this you are looking for, but it might give you a start in the direction. It got suspension and curves at least.

ahh, cool. I was just about to post a thread about this.

What about dynamics? Possible? If so, how?

That tutorial is great, if not a bit hard to understand :)

There is a maya tutorial that I really liked, but I haave trouble getting it to translate into Max. I made a decent IK rig to simulate suspension, but it always "broke" on me

There is a vehicle simulation program called "real???" I can't remember the end, but it isn't really a good solution.

I wish I could script, because I imagine that would be a good way to keep a vehicle locked to a roadway.

Have a look at this little set up I came up with. I haven't time to explain it, but I'm sure you'll work it out.... edit the path and the car will work out it's own pseudo dynamics.

It needs tweaking, but it's quick!

Cool... gotta tear that sucker apart now.

Thanks matt

[edit] Whaaa, damn that's a simple file :)
Thanks again

I once saw a really impressive car animation where all the suspension dynamics were controlled with Flex. Basically the car itself was suspended above the wheels by a non-renderable Flex-ed mesh. I can't remember the details but I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to figure out if you were so inclined.

www.chrison.com has made a min 1/2 animation about a kid being chased by a cop...

I think it's impressive...shows some basics...

You should take a look if you haven't already...
