View Full Version : The Hook Handed Man
Goemon 05-09-2005, 08:26 PM Hello everyone,
Here is my latest work a bit of fan art from "A Series of Unfortunate Events" He is known as The Hook Handed man, there are just a couple of illustrations of this character so I based my version off of them, but he is a little diffrent since there has only been a 2D version of him from the books. I think that the texture still needs some work, but I wanted to see what others thought so , please give me any feed back you have. Thanks in advance for comments or critiques.

Nice Job, I know exactly which character you're talking about. As far as geometry goes, the main things that bother me are his nose and the jacket. I'd bring his nose out some more, round it out, give it a little more of a bridge. The concave pixie-ish nose doesn't fit him that well. Also with the jacket tails, I think they would look better more square than round. Looking at it a little more, the neck seems a little too small looking from the profile, he has such a wide face, I might thicken his neck to better match that. Your geometry layout is decent, so it should deform pretty well once bound. As far as texturing goes, the yellow suit is a little overpowering, I might change the pants to a khaki or some similar color to break it up a little.
Hope that helps a little :)

Interesting character.... I like it!!
The upper legs are a little bit too small, and the knee might be a little bit too small also.
I have read the books but haven't watched the movie, but I envisioned him a little more buff and with a crazier look on his face, amybe a scar or something, can you oblige?
I like the green suit, but can you put some other color schemes, just to see how it turns out?
kakhi, yellow, orange, blue, maybe brown or black, just to see how it turns out.
Nice work so far

Thanks for all the replies and feedback. Great suggestion on the pants Jessart.I changed his pants to a different color. Grey with a hint of Purple to give contrast. As far as his nose, thats part of Brett Helquist's Design (the illustrator for the books). Hmmm the scar is a interesting idea, but I always imagined him to only to have the hooks, because Olaf always uses him in more public roles such as a doctor, the doorman etc. So apart from the hooks, maybe he does not stick out so much.
