Wow! I really hope they're releaseing that tech before 2007. if not they are seriously going to be left in the dust this time next year.

its a pity that the gameplay will suck big time. in a gamespsy interview the devs said it will be slower than ut200x. as a quaker, speed is everything to me :buttrock:

I like slower gameplay. I hope these high face counts won't affect player count. Nothing worse then playing against one person.

I wonder how the gore will look like, it something totally different when you speak of those realistic models...

dotTom
05-09-2005, 06:38 PM
I wonder...

(a) what card they're running this on today.
(b) what frame rate are they getting on said card.

In other words, how much are they banking on what will be "middle of the road" when it comes to GPUs late '06.

Thats just sick-

They used Zbrush and normal mapping for this yes?

I'd like to know too,

it wouldn't run on a nVidia 6800?

i love slower gameplay... unreal back in the day used to leave me walking away from they keyboard literally shivering and shaking from rinsing around a 28 frag game with ur fingers at light speed always fighting unrelentless geeks wanting to be the fastest.....

a game should not have to put u through that much. its just not fun....

i hope this has got some hl2 stylee deep storyline to take u through all of the beutiful scenarios that they have created, and not just have them for show while u blow somebodys head up...

got high hopes for this one:drool:

Man that looks awesome, and I am sure they will have GPUs by that time that can run it fine, at least I hope so.

Wow! I really hope they're releaseing that tech before 2007. if not they are seriously going to be left in the dust this time next year.

Also isnt the tech released already? I have a friend that is working with the unreal engine 3 stuff already at a studio, at least I am pretty sure he is. I will have to find out for sure, i could be wrong.

The point of Unreal Tournament is player vs player only, never been any story involved, it's a pure "sports" game. Hopefully, this will not change imo. :)

The shots looks really nice, Epic knows what hardware NVIDIA and ATI will have when the game is launched (according to Epic at least, under NDA). And the code is being written to take full use of dual core/dual cpu platforms.

And for a release date. According to Epic the first game based on their latest engine will be out in the beginning of 2006.

dotTom
05-09-2005, 09:20 PM
Yeah, given that the Unreal 3 engine is being used in a bunch of XBox 360 titles and the XBox 360 is a multi-core system then it's not surprising that the engine will exploit parallelism.

Well I'll tell ya what, if you haven't picked up UbiSoft's SplinterCell: Chaos Theory for your current top-of-the-line video card, you're missing an early view of what this Unreal 3 Engine can produce. Granted it's not the fully unleaded engine, but they're using some bells-n-whistles that I haven't seen in any game yet and I'm still whiping up the drool here.

Shader Model 3 is rocking!

Pyke
05-10-2005, 07:29 AM
I must admit that Splinter Cell is freaking awsome....and I've only played the Demo.

UT does look pretty good....makes me have high hopes for the next gen engines. :)

hmmm.. I wonder how good it will all look IN GAME.. assumedly, judging from past games, these are pure beauty shots.. I wonder if the game will actually look this good..

If indeed it will then im completely blown away..

the only thing that bothers me is what the enviro interaction will be like.. I wanna see some buildings being blown apart and trees being burned down..

I wanna see a level that starts out as a beautiful landscape and what not turn into a raging inferno with pot holes and dirt mounds and blah blah blah by the end of the level...

perhaps thats too much wishful thinking? :D

DotPainter
05-10-2005, 11:03 AM
Well, Epic is one of the first that is said to be working with the new physics gpu creators, so lets hope so! I am sure that destructable environments and immersive physics should be a priority in next gen games as well as normal mapping and lighting.

Yes, that’s true...
Let’s just hope that developers start to utilize multi-core processors in our PC's...
I hate that I have a processor just sitting there and not doing anything during my games...

As far as what graphics card you will need, I would say that the min. would be one of a 6800GT with 256Mb of onboard ram, but recommended would be something along the lines of 6800Ultra with 512Mb of onboard ram... But then again, a SLI system would make easy-pickings out of this game.

Oh my!
This is just amazing, my favorite shooter is getting another super-impressive remake. It better be just as fast and fraglicious as the past ones. And that tank! Onslaught mode in 2007 is going to be too cool for school.

Time to start saving for an SLI dual top of the line GPU system!

That's like saying Mortal Kombat had a "story"... haha.

I wouldnīt bet on that, it says UT2007 we are in 2005 in the meanwhile the 6800 is a card with almost 1 year in present time, so in 2007 the 6800 will have almost 3 years on itīs belt...see where im going?

Sure the game will probably run on itīs lower specs on a 6800, but i doubt that u will see that quality at 1600x1200 with everything maxed up.

Each UT2007 character will have around 10k triangles, itīs a VERY FAST PACED FPS game and usually itīs played with 10 characters on screen plus Levels, shoot trails, rockets trails etc etc etc.

Remember that games more than any other software are made to run on tomorrows hardware not on todays hardware.

ps: About UT2007 becoming more like HL2 and having a storyline...geee i hope NOT or it will loose itīs own appeal, at least to me, never liked seek and hide or puzzle solver games...zzzzz boring IMO, i prefer the: If it moves shoot it :)

i think this amazing quality of ingame gfx can't be rendered in realtime at the moment with the current available cards on the market.. it's just prerendered.
I will need more than my p4 2.6 with 2gb ram and my rusty radeon 97 to run this game *lol* :wip:

This is incredible. I wonder how much longer it will take take them in comparison to UT200X to finish.

05-11-2005, 04:54 PM
i don't see UT changing into a slower fps. its always been about speed, speed, and more speed.

as for adding a single player "half life" expierence, sure go for it! but don't you take away my twitch shooter.

makes me wonder if someday (soon- 5 years?) we'll be doing most all of our 3D DCC with realtime hardware renders.

man, those are incredible.

i wonder how the gameplay is going to be. if theyre slowing it down, that makes me happy. i'd like a mix between UT2004 and Mechwarrior style. though Mechwarrior isnt exactly FP....

You obviously haven't seen UT at the highest levels. It is on par if not faster than Quake 2+3, and actually has a large number of top Quake players who've migrated over. TDM and 1v1 has never been better, and I've followed all DM since Doom. It is incredibly fast my friend.

Edit: Thought I'd prove it. Check it out, some old-school quakers playing UT2k3: ftp://ftp.freenet.de/pub/4players/badct/games/ut2k3/vids/Tropic_Presents_-_04LADY.zip

Three letters...S-L-I. They are stating, at least, that you should be able to run the game on 2 6800s at medium to medium-high settings.

Sir_Vuclan
05-13-2005, 08:37 PM
oh yeah....good idea Sil3...and it still wont run on high setting because most of us gamers are on a budget and can't get the most expensive stuff...unlike the developers, who think everyone has super-computers.

Sil3
05-13-2005, 09:17 PM
...unlike the developers, who think everyone has super-computers.

Developers develope simple as that, Epic makes UT in order to show (read SELL) what their engine is capable of, that engine must still face years ahead so other games can be developed on it and still look nice and full of features.

EMP
05-13-2005, 10:39 PM
The devs runned it on a presentation on a laptop

the engine will work on a amd 64 4000+ 1gh memory an a gf 6800gtu. so far i know

so im waiting to upgrade my pc to a amd dualcore

Edit i posted on my forums tons of ut2k7 screens... also the game is espected in May 2006 so far we know source 1up

as a hardcore UT player I would be extremely disappointed if they slowed the gameplay down too much. the speed and movement system of UT is a turn-off to many people who are used to slower paced games like Halo... but they are the things that make UT what it is. it's a faced-pace, in-your-face fps. not a run-and-hide-in-the-shadows-with-a-sniper-rifle-picking-people-off-from-the-other-side-of-the-map fps like 99% of those that are out there right now.

there's nothing wrong with slow paced fps. but UT is not one of those and should not be made into one of those.

at any rate, i'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. i just hope they don't neuter the gameplay too much.

I thought this might be interesting, it's the next wave of normal mapping-ish real-time, steep parallax mapping, perhaps this is been hammered on the head before but this is technology that will be a standard perhaps after the Unreal 3 engine has done it's duty.

Very intense.
