Thanks guys...
I've finished my pathetic marble shader. It took me forever and I still can't get it to look the way I want it. However, right now it calls for fine tuning...and I don't want to do that until I have my lighting setup finished...oh ya I still need to do a @#$@%^!@# lighing setup!
I agree pigwater I'm going to need divine help to finish this one.
Enough talking need to work...

Here's my first update. It's a modeling milestone.
I'll upload a Concept Sketch as soon as I find a scanner. The 'story' will accompany the concept sketch. And I'll explain the character's wierd doll pose.

I know I only have a week left...but I'm going to try and finish this thing because I really like the idea.
Anyhow, here's the concept sketch. It depicts a sculptor who reaches to pick up a tool of some kind. Her sculpture is of a puppetier, and the composition tries to create the illusion that the sculpture is controling the sculptor.
Ultimately the messsage is that we may think that we shape our society's standards, while in fact it is they that shape us.

I've been struggling getting clothing on the character. (I don't have a cloth simulator) So I ended up having to sculpt her shirt and pants from polygon primatives.
Here's a test of the shirt. I'll upload a pic of the shorts after I deform them...

I finished deforming the shorts. They're not textured yet.
Hopefully I'll get to that this afternoon. ;-P

your concept is becoming better and better. the pose is very natural and attractive. clothes look good so far - you could only loose her shirt a bit more especially near the decolletage area, because it looks very stiff. legs are great.
in sum: delicious character and nice story behind.

Thanks Grooshka,
I fixed the shirt and added a bit of transparency and translucence to the shader to make it look softer...
I think it looks better.

Here's a quick render with the skin shader.
I'll work on the textures tonight...
Hope I can get this thing finished.

I'm still working on the sculptor's skin. Here's a quick update. Note that I still have to detail the highlights and blemishes on the body.
The face is fully textured for the most part.
There are also a few "trouble spots" on the bump map...
If I finish this thing it will be a really close shave.

WOW! How can it be: such awesome stuff with almost no replies!
In every case: I really really like your concept sketch (also the 'style' of that sketch! very nice dynamic placed lines! :) ), and you modeling and so! It looks very promising so far! I can't wait to see updates! :bounce: (and ofcourse the final!)
Only little point of critique would be that her (left) arm looks a bit to tiny... But if you think you haven't got time to fix it: don't mind that 'detail' ;)
Really much good luck! & Greetz,
Gijs

Thanks for all the feedback so far! :scream:
Hopefully I'll be able to finish up the skin texture today, and do her eyes.
Manikantkujur - I agree there's a lot more detailing to be done!
Dutchman - Thanks for the comments! And I agree that arm is still TOO skinny. Every time I did a render I increased the arm thickness a littlebit...and it's still too skinny. :argh:
Anyway...I don't think I'll be getting much sleep until this thing is done.

I hated the hair so I did a new setup. Here's a quick render. I'll add more noise and curl in the final render

Really nice work here! I particularly like how fell you captured the female form in that pose. Nice job! This hair has a real nice surface quality to it, but the hairline seems to be too high on her forhead. Anyway, really nice work so far. Looking forward to more. :bounce:

Added a few more blemishes to the facial skin, and did the eyes.
man that's great!!!
but the bump on the face alittle bit more i think
the ear is really great but is it somewhere more reddish where another no..
can you show us the colour map i'm really intrested in how u did the coulour map...
thx anyway

Tnks MSB...
Here's the Skin map. Nothin fancy. The real power lies in the shader network.
http://home.comcast.net/~henjomey/SkinMap.jpg
I know what you mean about the ears. I intentionally put the red in there. My current shader network isn't set up well enough to concentrate the translucence effect. And in real life, the ears have A LOT of translucence.
To compensate for the flat "platic" look (see my earlier renders) I painted the red right into the color map.
If I have enough time I'll rethink the shader, otherwise I just leave the red.
BUT I agree with you it needs work!

I looked through some of the other entries...YOU GUYS ARE SO GOOD!
What troubled me was how many marionette inspired entries there are. Now my entry will look so unoriginal (if I finish it in time).
Anyway. I've been working on the statue. I decided that I wanted the statue to have a clear "puppet" like form to help draw out the irony in the scene.
The statue has the characteristic "Bellmer Doll" look. Here's a quick render. I'll finetune her pose and then do a marble...translucence shader for her.

Well I did a puppet concept, and it doesn,t have anything to do with yours it all depends on how you approach the subject, great work so far hope you'll be able to finish on time.
Good luck
