Hi.
Problem no. 1:
I normally use Blender on my home computer(mandrake linux installed), but i had to go visit my parents for a week, and the computer that i have there has winxp, so...of course...i downloaded my version of Blender-the windows build.I used it to do some modelling, i did some 'complex' stuff, alot of subsufs and subdivs, and on that computer Blender worked great(on a Athlon xp 2000+, 256 RAM, 64megs Nvidia GeForce...somethin...).I got the .blends on a cd, i opened them on my linux box, but when i try to rotate the 3dView, or pan it, or zoom it, it moves VERY slow.the linux box is a xp 2000+, 640 RAM, 128 Meg RADEON 9200 Series. What could be the problem?I got more ram on the linux box, and a 128M videocard so it should , go AT LEAST as smoothly as it was on my parents computer. The menus work kinda slow to...I know this probably isn't the best forum to ask these questions, but maybe u guys had the same problem and fixed it somehow....Maybe a 2d acceleration problem?(Appolux said i might have 2d Acceleration disabled, but i don't exactly know how to check that out...i used glxinfo and it said 'direct rendering: Yes').Pls...HELP!

Problem no. 2: On WinXp i could use the NumPad Keys to switch between camera, top, front view...etc...When i try that on linux, Blender doesn't do anything....i tried them all with NumLock on and off...Nothin'...

On your linux box, inside of blender, please do this:

Help -> System -> System Information

Then open a text editor window. Click and hold on the buffer selection button (it's tooltip says "Browses existing choices or adds NEW¨. From the pull-down meny choose "system-info.txt"

Scroll up the page, copy all the text and paste it here, so we can see exactly what are you lacking.

Yours should be something quite similar to that.

Here it is !!

OpenGL:
============

Renderer: Mesa X11

This means that your OpenGL setup is using generic drivers for your card, not the ones developed especifically for your ATI card. Here is a quote about that issue, from the Blender-Linux FAQ (that ships with every Blender for Linux release):

Find out which GLX driver is been used on your system (more info on that bellow); if you get “Mesa GLX Indirect” it means that you are NOT using any hardware acceleration at all.

Check if your graphics card maker provides Linux drivers for your card. By replacing the general purpose Indirect Mesa driver with a driver made specifically for your card you could see speed increases up to 400% (my own experience) or more.

Nvidia, ATI and many other graphics card manufacturers provide Linux specific drivers for their cards. Bear in mind that those speed increases might come at the cost of some stability issues.

Blender supports both Mesa and proprietary glx drivers, but some users have reported buggy behavior coming from using proprietary drivers, while other users have reported outstanding

On a Blender unrelated note, I just noticed from the output you posted, that you are running Blender logged in the super-user account (root), that is VERY BAD linux practice and can only get you into serious trouble in the long run.

The root user can install, uninstall, mess, twist and generally speaking break your system configuration without any barrier. That account should only be used to install system-wide software and do mainteinance, not to run your day-to-day programs.

If any of your daily used programs has a bug or virus, and you are using it as the root user, the damage will spread system wide in no time, something that wouldn't happend if you were using a regular user account.
