View Full Version : 2d animation in 48 hours
grizzdogg 05-08-2005, 10:38 PM Hi. I have the Auckland 48hour film competition coming up soon (48hrs to make a short film). Is it possible to make a 4minute long 2d animated film in 48 hours?? If it is possible, what would be the best 2d animation software to use???
Cheers

This would depend entirely on the style you're shooting for, and the amount of planning you do.
If you are going for something simple, like South Park, you could do the animation in either Flash, Moho, After Effect, your favorite 3d app... 48 hours may actually be reasonable, as long as you have your assets built, and everything planned out.

Wow thats crazy to do animate a 4 minute short in 48 hours.
If its 2d, then I hope it's not hand drawn. Is it just you or a team?
4 minutes = 5760 frames at 24fps on 1's = 120 frames/hour = 2 frames every minute
Yikes!
Even using a program like flash would still be a huge challenge.
I wish you the best of luck and get some rest and stock up on coffee!

Wow. That'll be fast. Limited animation, in 12 fps, will still be a challenge. If I was doing something like that, I'd consider Moho. It has an easy interface, a joint system (so the compter can help interpolate between keys), and is cheap compared to most ($99).

you should add a lot of REUSE animation scenes
as well as long and interesting Camera movements ...
cycle a lot and directit so that all of the above is NOT boring :)
Try Toonboomstudio or/and Mirage for these...
but u will need lots of cafeine ,red bulls ...and if u know anyone in colmobia
that would help...

A program I have found great for 2D animation is Moho (www.lostmarble.com). It's a 2D vector based animation program with particles, 3D camera control, bones and rigging (yes in a 2D program!!) and a bunch of other cool features. They even have a free lip sync program (like a really easy to use version of MagPie Pro) you can download to use with Moho. I definitely recommend them both.

If what you have in your mind is character animation then I'd say just forget about it.. for a 4 minutes long Good piece, 2 days can't be enough for anyone..or, if you can make it, i would love to see the result..good luck.

If you care about the quality of the animation this is a bad idea. If I made 10 seconds of decent animation in a week, I'd be really happy.
