Here's a place to start.

The key to brushed metals is in the Specular and Reflection (most metals are more reflection dependant than specular). A good bump map and/or specular map with a good blurred reflection will provide some good results. As for being new... the best way to learn is trial and error... but there are some tutorials out there that apply to all 3D apps that can help... search around for them and figure out why they work.

your avatar use privileges could very soon be removed, I'll personally see to it!

Not sure exactly what type of brushed metal you're after... but, perhaps this will help a bit:

Thanks for reply JDex & thorn3d i am sure they will both come in handy!

Before i clicked on the link i saw that i had 10 replies i thought WOW hopefully some really good replies, and what do i find replies about a little animal, which i have to say made me LOL. I ran one of those little buggers over a while ago, silly thing ran straight under my car, guess he wont do that again!
