View Full Version : [Character] Tank Girl (need advice to finish her)
RenaudGaland 05-08-2005, 05:52 PM Ok guys, This is an old model that I'm about to finish.
I'm feeling a little bit "blocked" with this model. I mean, I didn't have the feeling to progress alot with it, and I'm looking for some tips/advices to improve her & myself :)
Atm, I still need to tweak the hair alpha, some seams, etc.

hi there Renaud, long time ;)
Here goes the crit
- Her feet seem a bit flat. The shoe doesnt really buldge around the ankle area, looks a bit like a clownshoe ;)
___| | foot now *g* __/ | kinda what I mean ;)
- Her ass seems a bit flat and the trousers a bit to far up. I know she doesnt have to be supersexy ( I really like how you worked out the breasts :) ) but a bit rounder butt and the trousers a bit further down would be ... mmmmmmh ;)
Would like to insert a quick  for the animationfriendly modelbuild. Really good.
Iīve still got to work on my own texturing skills to a level that I am happy but I would still like to give some feedback on yours.
- The bandage around her knee looks a bit unattached. A little security needel would make it look tightend.
- Her flesh texture looks a bit flat in general. Some stronger highlights would give her more depth. On the nose, the left knee, the cheeks ... she lacks depth in that direction.
- The leather armband look a bit unleathery :D. It looks a bit like you put a gradient fill over the band and copyed the "bolts" over it. I know itīs investing alot of time into a small part like that, but itīs for private "use" isn't it ?
- The badge on her chest also looks a bit ... wrong there. It looks a bit like itīs hovering over the cloth. Canīt really see whats on there (a punk "A" would be cool).
Same with the symbol near the zip of her pants.
Well Iīm going to stop here because this is as much as I dare to say before slipping into personal preferences ;)
Hope it helped a bit
- Phil

thx alot dude !! Your comments a more than welcome :)
About the armband, it's not supposed to be in leather but made with some "textile". ;)
Anyway, I'll take a look at all your points. Update soon :)

I've always liked this character Renaud when you 1st pimped it on Polycount..imho not much needs to be done to complete this character, but here are somethings I may suggest...:)
Her hair strands, they seem a bit abrupt where it's attached to her scalp, I would suggest graduating it a bit, show that it's hair...also would would be cool (I can imagine it now) is to show her natural hair colour from the roots of her hair
Her skin could use some battle scars maybe? but looking at the the texture page it's mirrored so I'll leave that decision to you...also if possible use some alpha on her vest, show it's age, and maybe add more of a dirt layer?
The bandage on her leg, I would add some little details for e.g a small amount of blood seeping through, to break up the continuos white and again add some dirt/grime:)
but as for the style of the whole character your going for...no crits from me man...I like it lots
p.s. and definitely post the updates...>anxiously waiting :D <

Looks really good! The texture and model are really nice, but two spots stand out as weaker than the rest.
The wrist bands do not look right, the metal is very reflective, and the leather does not have enough lighting. Leather gets a sharp, tight specular, and has a bit of texture to it. The highlights on the metal bits are way overblown, and wind up drowning the shape information out.
The button's highlight is also way too overblown, and winds up distracting a lot of attention for something that doesn't have much detail.
Other than that, your textures are really well done, and the model is great.

Love the style, but here is what I see. From the mid torso shot of her, it looks like her eyes are too far apart. But maybe thats just the perspective. Her neck looks a bit too skinny for her head. More detail and shading should be done around her eyes to make those pop out. Depending on her age, you might consider adding a bit of smile crease in the texture?
BTW, nice boobridge on her shirt. :) I love all the paint stains on her too.

comming along great so far.
In addition to many of the things above, I think you need to bulken up that fishnet on her left leg. at the distance you prepared the screen shots at, it is so thin to the eyes that it looks more like a skin discoloration or one of those errors you get in software packages where you have overlapping geometry. Just bulken up the netting itself and put a slight shadow on the skin underneath to realy sell the texture.
oh, and the head mesh seems like it can be optimized just a bit more, but its nothing that big.
But its comming out realy awsome so far so keep up the good work.

But, Dont Forget the TATTOOs! she had awesome tattoos!
Great work! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

haha, this is great, love the style per usual, few things, maybe freying the bottom of the shorts, and a little tighter of a drop shadow underneath em to make them look like there huggin her a little tight. Really nice stuff.

Great work, apart from the other suggestions posted, I think the collar bone looks a little like one continuos bone cos of the dark mass where they meet, other than that Look very cool. Good work.

Excellent Work really tight mapping, I only have a minor crit, there is something about the boots perhaps lost defintion the texture feels kind of ringy from the front.
