So here's my favourite bastard (sword), also known as "a hand and a half".
Its an attempt to do a semi-realistic image. Photoshop, 1hour.
(the blade is too wide, especially at the end, but its too late to make corrections :/)

It's easier than it looks, really :-) Metallic surface is flat and reflective, so mix some flat, sharp shapes, nearly invisible gradients, some reflections, bright edges and a shadow beneath all of it - et voila! :-)
Btw:: I don't really 'get' the theme.... what are you supposed to do!?
...Well, I just googled for the different meanings of the word 'bastard' :-)

Lovely sword Herod. Some of your stuff's looking amazing.

Heheh, MVP I hadn't even thought of Fat Bastard. Next time around I'll have to have a go at doing more of a charicature. (sp?)

When I saw today's topic I knew I had to go for either Ming the Merciless or General Zod. I chose Zod in the end. Hmm, maybe his background's not evil enough and Terence Stamp's head is slightly rounder but ah well - here's my go for today :

These daily sketches are definitely helping speed up my drawing process. About an hour in Photoshop.

In case you haven't seen Superman II here's what Zod looks like.

Tonik - "Kneel before Zod!" Excellent stuff. I only watched that today too. Tremendous film!

Herod! Very nicely done. great detail.

I want to do one for this but I must sleep! Until tomorrow my friends...!

For some reason, the word bastard made me think of manga guys... (none of them Bastard, btw :D).
No sketching today either, I'm afraid  , but I just had to say this:

Her0d - Great sword! It really looks 3D! :applause:

Dunno if im too late or not, but i thought id give it a go. Im determined to improve my painting ability!
My fave bastard (or villain) is probably gary oldman's excellent character in Leon (aka 'the professional')
My fave moment is when he shouts "EEEEVREEEYYYOOOOOONNNE!" and i wanted to paint that, but i was too idle to make a vidcap of the dvd, so i found this pic on the net to use as reference. Good practice too, cos its nice and contrasty.

1.5 hours in photoshop on me cheap and cheerful wacom volito.

Lemme know what y'all think cos i tried hard on this one.....
