View Full Version : Joining Polygons (Still not Working!)
BUZZFX 05-07-2005, 07:02 PM Ok, I'm still working on this. I have made a new diagram to explain it. Some people were not clear as to what I am trying to do. I am also posting a new thread since the old one is buried.
I tried different settings in the "optimize" settings with no success. Please try the same test I have done to see if you can get this to work!
Many Thanks!

The vertices might not be exactly on top of each other.
Have you tried increasing the radius in the optimize dialog?

Sorry, I'm render an animation right now so have to do this using my memory. After butting them together. Select the two OBJECTS in the objects manager, use CONNECT then OPTIMIZE. Based on your image, it looks like you tried to connect the points and not the actual objects. It's the objects that need to be first connected.

Ahhh...if you had showed this earlier...
Indeed: after bringing both polys together, stay in polymode, select both (Ctrlclick the second one) and connect the polys. Then switch to points mode, deselect all points (or select all in this case no selection is needed) and run optimize.

eric, i think you mean stay in model/object mode and connect the two objects.

You are a great clairvoyant!
wanting to explain too well, I wrote too much.
simply select both polys etc etc
otoh I remember your model.
connecting and optimizing is of course ok and a basic technique, but like Olli wrote, Stitch and Sew is, in that case handier: select and connect both objects, in points mode, then choose S&S, hold down Ctrl and click apoint, then drag to one you want to stitch. The first one is brought to the position of the second one and melted with it.

Hi,
I think that connect followed by an optimize *may* do what you want. Another way that is more directly what you want is that you simply 'weld' the points. Select the first set of two close points, then select 'weld', and hover over the points and you will see an indicator showing what is about to be done. Click and boom. Two points become one and the geometry is forever linked.
Stitch and Sew is a great option too!
Did I understand the problem or did I screw it up further?! :D
