View Full Version : PS2 pixel art.
DaChickan 10-08-2002, 04:04 PM Hey guys,
Here's something I have just finished and want to continue with some more pics of other consoles. If possible, could you guys recommend any sites which have good quality high res photos, plans, schematics or the like for the Nintendo GameCube and the Microsoft XboX :)
Cheers. Crits welcome.

Wow! We have a pixellover here :)
I absolutely love that way of illustrating :bounce:
I am a big fan of the guys from www.eboy.com
Sorry but I can't help you for the links, but can you tell us something about your software and technique?
Allways wanted to do something like this.
Welcome to the board
Cheers, jeroentje

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. I have always been a huge fan of eboy. He is truly an amazing artist.
I mainly use Photoshop for this kind of work, but there is not limit to the kind of paint program you can use. All I do is get as many reference images and photographs as possible. These shots include different angles, closeups with a macro function (with my digicam) or macro lens on a camera to capture the fine detail.
Also, a study of the way the light hits the object and try and recreate the light's natural effect in pixels. With anything, it just takes practise and lots of studying of everyday things.
Here's another pic I had created of my girlfriend's room. More stuff to follow:

Hehe, I have to admit that my cartoony illustrator style was once inpired by the pixel style... I love the strange simplicity/detailing combination. Only I took it to vector :D
I like pixels! And I just happen to have a pixeled homepage, too!
The PS2 you did looks good, but I'd like to see you try a machine or peripheral that wasn't designed by a borg (i.e. not all 90 degree angles, like the original Sega Genesis or a NeoGeo joystick).

Nice, there's one quite big error that I can see, if you look on the bottom end try follow the edge you will see that there's a big diffrence in placment on the corners. Hope that makes sence to ya

Wow! Great!!! A Pixel-Worker!!!
very nice stuff! The Playstation is nice but the room is amazing!
Do you only work for "Art" pictures or do you work for VideoGames too? The room will be great for a GBA game!
Very cool stuff! Pixels are not dead!!! :D :buttrock:
jeroentje: Thanks for your very good link!
Hey...What about a Pixel-Challenge Mister-Mod! :bounce:

Hehe, that PS2 looks like it belongs to the Sims.
Nice work.
"I'd like to see you try a machine or peripheral that wasn't designed by a borg"

Thanks for the replies.
Hey Bjotto, I see the error you are talking about, will fix ASAP.
Its funny that you mention the design "being designed by a borg" because I am now moving onto a pixel version of the XboX which is much more difficult due to its "organic" design.
Also the PS2 controller has taken me some time so far, again because its so hard to do any type of organic design with pixels and such a small size too :)
Any help and tips from seasoned pros can only help :)
Will post some more work tonight if I get a chance.

Maybe it's done deliberatly, and if it is don't mind me saying this.
But it looks like you have inversed your perspective (what's further away is bigger than what's close).
Other than that ,i love your pixels.

Hey, if anyone is interested, there is a place on the web that strictly has just "Pixel-Art". I visit quite often.
I'm sure many of you may like what you see:

This is not only a great place to look around, but also a great place to learn how to create, critique, and practice your own pixel-art. :bounce:

Heh heh. Silly Fiber... There is no perspective, pixel art is supposed to be isometric.
And Jeroentje, mod of mods, I too would really like to see a pixel-art challenge! That would be... awesome!!!

DaChickan: have you thought about making a 2d side-scrolling freeware game? the traincar reminds me of final fight! all you'd need is a programmer to do something really basic.
