I've got 2.5 gigs of ram installed in my G5 whixch it definitely recognises as i have checked in "About this Mac", but when i open up after effects it only says 2gb's of ram. Anyone have any ideas?

AfterEffects can only recognized 2 gigs of physical ram. It's Adobe's fault. Rumors are that AE 7 will remove this limitation.

No ways thats crazy. I remember an Adobe guy at IBC last year saying that 4 gigs of ram was a good amount of ram to have when running AE.

Sadly itīs true. Got the same amount of ram as you. But on the other hand the system like those 500Mb of ram. Do you go a single or dual g5 btw. ?

Actually its not AE's problem its an OS problem. I run AE on a my pc workstation at work with 3GB of RAM. I had to enable the 3GB switch in my OS (Win XP Pro) so that apps could use more than 2GB, noe AE uses 2.7GB (I only enabled 2.7 and left the rest for the OS) You may have to do some research online to see if its possible to set the Mac OS to allocate more than 2GB per application. This is the problem with 32 bit applications and won't be an issue once we all migrate to 64 bit (16GB of RAM! WooHoo!!!)

A link to some MAc OS info may not be possible to use more than 2GB in OS X as of now http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=4009&page=2

Hmm.. I'm not so worried now as i doubt 500mb will make much diff and its probably better reserved for the OS anyway, but when i do decided to upgrade to maybe 4gigs of ram then i wol like AE to utilise the full amount. Hopefully by that time AE 7 will be out and it will support more than 2 gigs.

I have G5 dual 2.7 :D btw
