View Full Version : 3dsmax4.2 | Is there a way to "Ignore BackObjects" when selecting Objects?
ZaonDude 10-08-2002, 08:13 AM I'm familiar with the 'Ignore Backfacing' option during sub-object selection of course, but I have a lot of difficulty selecting the foreground object when using any of the Select/Move/Rotate pointers.
For some reason, it likes to select other objects behind the one I want... even when I 'aim' for mesh edges during a select, if another edge happens to be on an object behind the one I want it almost seems to give the behind objects preference in being selected. Very annoying ... gggrr ;-)
Any solution to this? I've been plagued with this all my life, but never got around to asking till now LOL..

Helo Zaon,
There is one very powerful tool in there that u can use during manipulations. It is called viewport clipping.
My two cents.
Ps: hope that will work for you, dude.

Hmmm... I'm familiar with that one, but say you're modeling a street with a bridge over it and cars parked under the bridge and on the bridge. Each car, plus various trees, etc., all have a gazillion objects. I do hide things frequently, but viewport clipping would be a rather difficult means for 'focusing' only objects of interest, not to mention cumbersome to make frequent adjustments.
Don't others run into this issue? Or is it something I'm overlooking in terms of a setting?

Hlo again zaon,
hmmm, just realize you're in a different league from where i'm standing. Geez! you could float all that on a scene!? As for me, xref all the way. hehe.
Anyway back to your question. There is a tool by a dude name Herman Saksono who wrote a poly only ignore backselection which is very powderful (superlative of powerful). I think it is called ignore backface.
Dere.
