Title: Forgotten Sisters
Name: Hope Huang
Country: Canada
Software: Blender
This is an image that has already appeared in a ocuple of places but that I've only recently been able to place on the CG talk Forums. I'm Rather proud of this image as it's probably the most complex (scene wise) one that I've done so far.
The render quality is not up to par but i hope you will excuse the blender renderer for this.
Crits would be highly appreciated

Nice scene, everything just seems a bit 'bright' to my eyes, I think it'd look better if it was less illuminated.

Very nice, but I do agree with other people... You should add ripples to the water and decrease brightnes... :)

Nice but a bit too bright!
Can I see some closeups of the submarine model please?
Thanks

why do you blame the blender renderer?
your midtones and highlights are blown out because of the harsh lighting - it has nothing to do with the renderer.
having said that, awesome modeling. do you have a colour version?

hey yeah there aren't too many colors in the original. It was rendered in sepia tone. the only real textrues are for some parts of the sub (not even the entire hull) the dock and the roof. I used photoshop's scratch filters to add in extra details which worked quite well.
the original wasn't that bright either. I increased the contrast and brightness for a b/w digital magazine that i submitted to and they wanted an image like that.
i probably should have posted the original instead since your despriptions kind of describe what i had before.
and in responce to the crit about the noise coming from the high contrast... you can notice how the original is actually quite noisy aswell. but i do see what you mean by the extra emphasis when i turned up the contrast
and i also posted 2 work in progress angle shots for those who are interested in what other views look like.
anyways thanx for the crits! :D

Very excellent, especially on the sepia-ish second version, since I can see more of the details. I love the wet look of the roof, and the slightly grainy look gives it extra character IMO. Gives it a sort of eerie, mournful look that some of the better Silent Hill games evoked.

Nice to see more creative things like this in 3d imagery. Have you been inspired by a photograph?
You should emphasize the photograpic aspect of your composition by (maybe) contrating lights/shadows. Could even think about bloom effect where the specular are high (and the sea water could be understood by this way). Otherwise dont increase technical render quality because this grany look is fine. Keep it black & white.
