View Full Version : shortcut for raycast selection - points/edges
dwigfor 05-04-2005, 10:21 PM Hey all,
Been progressing thru my first model... Almost done! I've found myself using the raycast tool for selecting exclusively.. I'm constantly switching between polys, points, and edges.
Are there shortcuts? I'm always hitting u and then going to the menu and clicking points or edges.

I re-set the hotkeys to
F = Raycast Poly
E = Raycast Edge
T = Rectangle Point
If I need Rectangle selection of Polys or Edges, I press F or E respectively and then press F7 to switch to rectangle.
Check the manual for changing hotkeys with the keymapping tool.

I went with E, R and T for Edge, Poly and Points. Shift E and R for rectangle select. I threw Raycast Poly onto 'R' since I didn't find reseting the camera a very common occurance. :)
What'd you do with Frame Selection, JDex? I use that in too many views to move it any farther away.
A = Frame selection
Shift + A = Frame All
I went with F for Faces... throw back to my Wings3D days.

By default both polys and edges have raycast modes:
I for Edges
U for Polys
In the select menu you can see your modes and tools options
Anytime you want to make your current component mode raycast you can hit F10.
And of course you are also free to remap your hotkeys :)
