After thinking a little more about the Master Servant theme, I came up with another idea along similar lines. However, I wanted to paint this one using regular oil paint.

So the concept is a scene in some under ground cavern on a demonic plane where the poweful Tanar'ri mistress receives news from a visitor.

Unfortunatley I was unable to use any reference for the figure drawing.

Here is the drawing of the Mistress:

Her pet which will be looming in the darkenss behind her:

Her faithful servant, escorting the envoy:

And the messenger:

This is the assembled composition:

And here is the completed value sketch from Photoshop I printed out to paint over:

I stuck the print to a piece of 18" x 24" masonite. I will take some shots of the painting process as I go along and post those soon.

Comments and crits are welcome.

Wow, thanks for the great encouragement guys! :bounce:

I haven't been able to paint with oils since October and am really looking forward to giving it a try again.

I'm still working out the settings on my new camera but here are a few shots with the background blocked in.

I mixed up diox purple, burnt umber, ultra blue, cad yellow deep and light and a little white to create the range of values from dark to light and blocked those in fading them into the area around the hanging lamp.

I will try to get some better shots on the next batch. On to the critter!

Here's the latest update. There was a little glare coming in from the window on the left side of the picture so it seems a little lighter there in the photo. I also blocked in a few colors on the mistress figure to see what that might look like.
