Ehem...well, my mom absolutely loves dragons, so I decided to paint a lovely dragon for her for Mother's Day. I sketched the head out on paper and scanned that in, and started painting.

Here's the sketch:

Here's the start of the painting, with most detail concentrated around the head so far:

Is it just me, or is this looking more like a 3D render than a painting?

It's looking great actually! I love the colours. I'm sure she will love this painting!

Keep it up, can't wait to see the rest. Of course, you will have to let us know what Mom thinks!:)

It does look very much like a 3D render. I would suggest changing the background color, and increasing the contrast on the dragon itself to avoid this, if thats what your going for.

But as for the drawing and the start of the pain you get two thumbs way way up.:thumbsup:

Thanks, guys!

An update:

Worked a little more on the body, increased the highlights a bit. Sharped the outline in some places. It's looking a litte, a little less like a 3D rendering now. I'm going to start on the background soon. :)

that looks pretty good... I'd work on the
tail more to make it like more ..umm..arg..
vocabulary arrest.. curly..coil..twist nngghr..
u know.. wavy ,no.. yes, something like that,
cause now it looks too much like twanggg,
swish swish happy puppy, hehe, sorry, it's
just how it looks to me

btw, what happened to your mastrer and servant
contest entry, you haven't posted in ages ?

Well, I sorta gave up on it. I feel I'm just not ready to do something like that until I've had a bit more practice. But I saved the story and will paint it sometime...when that sometime is, I don't know. Thank you for asking though! :)

And you're right about the tail, it is rather stiff. (was that the word you were looking for?)

i was wondering how to say i wanted
the tail more twisty and curly, but all the
words i came up with sounded funny to me , hehe,
cause none of them described exactly what i
meant...

...well, i'm not sure if i know exactly what i meant
anyways , so i guess it's not that big of a deal

:surprised

Ok, another update here. I fixed the tail, I think it looks much better now, less stiff. I also started on the background. I still have some work left, but this is all that's done for now.

By the way, I showed this to my mom, and she's really excited to see it done.
