hi everyone,

This is my first serious lighting test ever, so I'm sure there are lots of mistakes. I'd love to hear from you guys and what you think I did wrong!

This was done in Maya 4.

I can't figure out why the shadows for the pins are a bit off at the front of the thumbtacks... Any suggestions are also welcome.

Thanks!

Raji

Hi!
Check the ShadowMap "bias: parameter - it should be close to 0.0 to produce better shadows.

i used raytraced shadows cause I can never seem to get the right results with shadow maps... do you think I should try switching?

I don't remember if you have Area light in Maya but if so, you should use them cause it gives the best result and when you use them the right way, you can go close to what radiosity would give you as result.

I'd also dim the ambient light so that objects look as if they were really on the floor.

Good luck.
