Hey all,

Here is an attempt at trying a different style...hope you like. Now crit away!! Ha ha!
Seriously, this is a bit of a new style for me, so if there is something funky, let me know your thoughts. I have been trying out different styles lately while working on my main project, but I had a lot of fun with this one.
Take what you like from it or describe to me the story you see. (Saw someone else use that approach and I liked seeing the different responses that came from it...)
Thanks everyone! Hope you are all well.
~Ela~

p.s. 5 hours in Photoshop Elements. :)

hmmm,

I believe she that she must be reading from a book about how to simulate stars from the look on her face she must be doing it for the first time, the money on that book must have been well spent . I love the grass, it reminds me of some of Yuri Norstein's environments

Thanks! :D Although I kinda cheated with it, by using the brush available in Photoshop Elements, but I think it turned out okay.

My idea with this is in creating some pagan-style fantasy cards with a couple of friends of mine. They are doing it as a side to their current graphic design business and asked if I would contribute some designs to it.

Thanks all for looking!

Here I go again! Here is the next in this series...planning to do the four elements, and I'm not sure if this will work for Water, but your comments might help me out. So far I have Air (Wind Story) and this is Water Story...my friends liked the initial character design and asked me to do another one. Hoping I can keep up the momentum! Ha ha!

At any rate, this is still in the rough stages, but let me know your thoughts or even if you think it's bloody awful! :)
I might switch this to be a rainstorm scene instead, still doing some sketches on it. *shrug* We will see...
Take care,
~Ela~

I really like your ideas and this style is so cute. For this water pic though, I'd scale down the tail of the mermaid and make it look a bit rounder. This would keep the body consistent with the other pic and the style would be a bit more evident. Nice paintings!

Hey All,

Long time no see! With the summer months upon me it's been very hard to sit in my basement and paint although I have been sketching a fair bit.
At any rate, here is my latest in this series. I'm putting the mermaid on hold until this one is done. It's just in the sketching phase at this point, but it should be better defined soon.

Enjoy!

These are fun! I was in a paperstore today, reminds that they'd look really cool on nice old looking papr and with thick colouring ink. Japanese or what not, didn't catch the names right.

Well, they look good like this too, but you probably get what I mean with those weathered looking playing cards on the market.

I really like the last one for colours and mood.

Thanks JM!! That's a cool idea! I'll have to get to a stationery store to check it out. :D

Here is the newest update! (Hooray! :D) Hope you like!
Obviously I have some work to do on the hands and the bottom of the dress. I am hoping to put some yellow in her hair because I think it needs more in there, but any comments or crits you smarties would like to offer would be great!
(and appreciated as always!)

Take care everyone!
~Ela~

EDIT: I neglected to mention that the dragon design on her dress is adapted from a design by a tattoo artist. I will credit the artist and get his name for you shortly. I don't want to claim it entirely as my own if it's not. :D

Alright, so I did a few more updates on the hands and the dress and felt compelled to start on the background of the pic. My idea is to shrink this lady a bit so I can have a slightly more detailed background similar to the first pic in this series...

My problem is...I am blanking out for ideas for some reason :(... I was thinking of throwing a few yellow sparks in the air around her head, maybe some candles on varying levels of black iron stands circled around her...I'm just not sure though...I am totally stuck here. Perhaps a bonfire? A circle of fire around her? Hmmm...

Any ideas? Crits?
Cheers,
~Ela~

You're probably focussing on your Bead Obsession piece now, but I like the work you've done here. For "Fire" her arms are exceedingly long but more importantly her right is longer than her left. What if she's standing on the lip of a volcano urging it to erupt? I love how her hair flows upward and wouldn't want to obscure it with lots of flame. Her dress looks wonderful, too -- my favorite piece so far.

"Wind" looks great, but her hand that's holding the book should have the thumb closest to us, and she could use a wider stance.

Cheers!

Soup: Heh heh, you've brought up my biggest weakness, eh? Anatomy..:D No worries, I need to hear any crits on it because I'm trying very hard to get it right. (*sigh* you should see the mess that is my sketchbook...*LOL*) I do appreciate you mentioning this, because I have been trying to figure out how to finish this one off.
I've been getting a lot of comments on Fire lately, people seem to respond really well to it which has made me feel really good. I get so uncertain that what I'm doing is really worth doing, so I am so excited to hear your comments Soup. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! *big ginormous grin*
A volcano sounds like the perfect setting for her! I'll give that a shot.

As for "Wind", I think I'm going to redo that one. Sadly, I created it shortly after discovering the dodge and burn tools and completely overused them. Now that I have had more experience with different brushes and TOTALLY AVOIDING dodge and burn wherever possible (hee hee!) I want to improve the piece and completely start it over again. I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks again Soup! Stay tuned!
*and now for a message from a few of our sponsors*
Cheers,
~Meredith~
