Hi Everyone ,

We are back with another session after a lenghty break. WIthout further wait here is this months session:

Animation Session 12 - Circus Auditions

What is Circus Auditions?:

- Animate your character auditioning to one of the circus professions. For example you might pick to animate a lion tamer trying to tame a lion , a clown doing some tricks , a cannon guy , etc. Whether they are successful or not is up to you , go creative.

Deadline?:

-Session starts May 2 and ends June 2 , so you have a month to animate.

Do I have to model and rig too?:

-No , use one of the free models available for your software of choice or a character you already modeled\rigged and use that. This is not a modeling session.

Do I need to add sound/Dialogue?:

-No , sound is not allowed in this session

How long can my animation be?:

-100 frames min , 300 frames max. All animations should be at 24fps.

THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE!:
Everyone should show the following milestones:

-Sketched thumbnails showing your thought process , these can be stick figures or scribbles as long as it shows your poses and planning.

- A blocking pass\first pass and a second pass showing how the animation is progressing.

-A final animation playblast rendered with quicktime in 640 x 480 with sorenson 3 codec or an .Avi rendered with cinepac codec. NO div-x or any other codec please , we want to be able to scrub the timeline.

--

Please start your own thread under the animation session forum like the following example:

Your real name - Circus Auditions - The profession you picked (ie: clown)

--

Looking forward to everyones entries and if you have any additional questions please ask in this thread.

Happy Animating!

Gahhhh! That pic on the frontpage plug brings back aincient memories!!
Anyone remember the amiga paint program primed to better Dpaint called "photogenics"?
That exact clown pic was the 'mascot' image - much like pic of tutunkhaman that came with dpaint.

Blehh - thats enough of my pointless waffle....

But... but... but...

Here I am, desperate to do more animation & you go and start a new session at the crunch period of the challenge!

Looks like I'll have to wait until the next one comes along...

(Unless of course, I can somehow replace my brain with ivanisavich's... then I'll be able to finish the session done by the time I've typed this sentence!)

:D

I'm gonna have a tough time trying to narrow it down to one.

I guess it's time to start my research.

You can render with motion blur for the final render. Dont worry about it during the blocking , first pass \second pass. Just post a playblast for those.

Anyway, I might not enter, but I'll surely be lurking. Good luck.

Are camera cuts allowed? Or do we have to use one Camera the entire time.

Thanks

Camera cuts are allowed. Whatever it takes to tell the story better.

If anyone is having a hard time deciding on what to do this link (http://search.looksmart.com/p/browse/us1/us317828/us317850/us54483/us898378/) might help.

Thanks to Matt Vogt (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=236518) for the link :)

haha thx but I can't take credit for it. It's a plush shader from highend http://www.highend3d.com/files/dl.3d?group=mayashaders&file_loc=Plush-v1.0-.zip&file_id=3033

Yeah, I will have to put the clown back in action.

I'm sure it is not the picture from Photogenics (which had some kind of rose...) but from Personal Paint. I've just launched my emulated Amiga and found that:

http://student.uci.agh.edu.pl/~ludwin/Clown.png (http://student.uci.agh.edu.pl/%7Eludwin/Clown.png)

in PP directory.

By the way: do you remember Lady from ImageFX? :>

How long can my animation be?:

-100 frames min , 300 frames max. All animations should be at 24fps.

Does it have to be 300 frames (12.5seconds) max?

SheepFactory
05-05-2005, 09:19 PM
yes cant be over 300.

Slurry
05-06-2005, 03:17 AM
Couple of quick questions:

What is at stake here? If you go over 300 frames, what's the big deal? There is nothing to lose by going over is there?

Secondly, why would you animate at 24 frames per second? Since these exercises will most likely never be transfered to film, doesn't it make more sense to animate at 30 fps?

Art

SheepFactory
05-06-2005, 06:05 AM
a) its good exercise , when you work in movies you dont go saying "whats the big deal if I go over my frame limit?" you should make it work in 300 frames thats the challenge.

b)same reason as above.

loran
05-06-2005, 09:07 AM
Woowww, this could be a great acting experience! I have first to create and rig my own character because I am a 3dsmax user and there is no high end free rigged models for max :/

But I m workin on it! :]

Slurry
05-06-2005, 12:19 PM
Ali,

Thanks for the straight-forward response. Also, thanks for fixing my thread title.

Loran,

I know there were free models free for download on CG Talk a couple of years ago. Maybe do a search - the models came in different formats: maya, max, lw, etc. Be sure to check the 3DS Max forum on CG Talk as well.
Also, IK Joe was originally a Max rig I believe. Created by Daniel Martinez Lara, an excellent aniamtor/artist.
Do a search on the net and other 3D websites, I'm sure you'll find something to use!

Peace,

Art
