Hello - I am learning 3ds Max and am looking to purchase a laptop for mobility purposes. I have customized the following DELL laptop and wanted to ask if anyone sees anything that might pose a problem -

Inspiron 9300:
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Operating System:
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Memory:
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
Hard Drive:
80GB Hard Drive
Video Card:
256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800

There are far too many opinions and such on hardware, which was a bit mind boggling for me, so I thought this would be a good system, taking into consideration the video card and memory.

Thank you,

Yeah, the Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740. While great for mobility it's not the best you could do. If you want power go with a P4 but don't expect a lot of battery life.

I have the same processor in my Vaio but I don't use it for 3D.:D

Thank you for the information, leonec. Would you say a P4 is better than and Pentium M processer for 3ds Max?

Yes the P4 would be a better choice for Max performance. But you also need to weight the other issues with having a P4, like batter life.

Good to know - battery life is not too much of a concern for me as I would be plugged in most of the time. I like the space consuming aspect of a laptop (as well as portability).

Thank you much.

But, you should also realize that you are also losing upgradablity with a laptop.
If you are looking to buy a computer purley for 3ds max you should look in to a desktop. Better yet just build your own. (you can build small desktops too).
